Holley Carburetor help.

I'm trying to decide on a new carb for my 82 GMC Sierra with a built SBC 350, all motor, and 373 gears. At first I was looking at the Holley 750 double pumper. But then I found this Holley 770 Street Avenger, that is cheaper.

Anyone have any experience with the 770 street avenger?

My truck is a street truck, I'm just trying to find a carb that will give me max power and throttle response.

Thanks guys.

What intake manifold vare you running. The stock sppreadbore man. won't work good with a Holley. The Q-jet that came on that engine is a good carb when set up right.

Thanks for the help.

I have an Edelbrock performer intake, from what I've read the Holley will bolt up to it fine.

I'm thinking I'll go ahead and spend the extra cash on the Holley 750 DP, just because that's what I had on my last c10 with a built 350, and it ran awesome.

Right now my truck has an Edelbrock 650 on it, I think the carb has a few issues , and I'm just more of a Holley fan.

Shoot the specs on your engine? If you are stock to mild, you sure dont need, or even want that much carb on a driver 355 crazyL

Re: Holley Carburetor help.

Nothing wrong with the SA Holley Carbs. I've got two of them running just fine after several years each. One is a 570 on my stock motored '71, and a 670 on the moderately built 350 in the K20 Burb.

I do question the need for a 770cfm though. That's a lot of carb, but it depends on how "built" your engine is too.

If you're going to drive the truck on the street alot, the DP will not be as well mannered as the vacuum secondary SA will be. Just food for thought.

Re: Holley Carburetor help.

Thanks guys, I'm quite sure my motor is built enough for the amount of CFM's I'm wanting to go with.

I was just looking at the SA 770 because it's cheaper, but after thinking about how well my last c10 with a similar build did with the 750 DP, I figured I might as well just spend the little extra.

Here are my specs.

350 4 Bolt Main .040 Over
Scat forged I beam rods
Keith Black flat top pistons 4v reliefs
Moly rings
World Sportsman II heads 2.02 valves and 64cc chambers
Edelbrock performer rpm intake
Edelbrock 650 carb
1 7/8 longtube headers
Lunati Bracket Master II Cam 300 duration
Crane Valve springs
Crane roller rockers
Comp Cams double roller timing set

Trans:
350 turbo
b&m rebuild kit
stage 2 shift kit
Hughes Performance 3000 stall

Re: Holley Carburetor help.

I'm sure you will choose what has worked best for your in the past but RPM can be the biggest decider for what you need in cfm on your build. The only way you would need a 750 is if you are regularly spinning to 7,500, and that is if your heads are at a 100% VE. The difference between a 6K and a 7.5K motor is as much as a 150 cfm difference in need. I'm assuming we are talking about in a heavy truck like the rest of us drive? You really only need a 650 double pumper if you are driving normal and not going much above 6,000, you will have much better throttle response from the 650, better gas mileage and it will still haul a$$.

Re: Holley Carburetor help.

Yeah, I ended up ordering the 750 DP, since it worked really well on my last c10 as well.
