72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

A couple months ago I purchased my ultimate tuck. An unrestored Cheyenne Super short bed. After discussing with the seller who said it is totally road worthy. I asked my son if he wanted to do a road trip across the country. He was all over it and the bonus was we would pick the truck up in North Carolina which is right next to Tennessee where he just graduated from UT, last December.
Today we flew into Charlotte. And are starting our journey back to California. Planning on a 2-3 week trip with many sights along the way. The route is not set in stone.
Im hoping to be posting progress as we move along. I'm sure there will be issues along the way, but I guess that's 1/2 the fun!
Wish us luck, and I hope it is epic!!

Eric & Brad

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Sounds like a lot of fun. How about some more info on the truck, and lots of details on the route, and the interesting stuff you see on the way.

Good luck.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

This is a great thing you are doing... Going for it! I've done it a dozen or more times. I've never had one of these trucks leave me on the road with anything I couldn't deal with. I figure such things add color to the picture. "I got in the truck and started driving West. I ate here, slept there. In three days I was home" Pretty boring, huh?

The father & son element is rich and will be a lasting memory. Be careful, don't push it, take it all in, and share all you can with us. Have a great trip!!

Very nice truck! The journey you are about to set out on with your son is really what its all about. I often dream that there will come a time when I'm able to do something similar with my two sons who are already 14 and 22 yrs. of age... Lots of pics my friend...

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Made it from Charlotte to Ashville, about 170 miles. This morning I noticed the center support bushing on driveline is worn out. Dealing with that now. Hopefully we can find a new one and be on the road later today. The truck drove strong, but it has 124k miles on it and I'm guessing it has been a while since it has driven any long distance. We will have to work out the quirks.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Not cool man, we have very few trucks that nice left around here and you're taking it back to the land of rust free trucks? I'd feel a little better if you were taking it up to NY or OH

Seriously, nice freakin' truck!

Have fun. I've driven my 65 Mustang a total of around 9,000 miles the past 3 years on the power tour. Been as far north as MI & WI, as far west as TX, OK, KS, even dipped down into FL for one of them.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Stopped at autozone. Picked up small toolbox, hoses, antifreeze, wiper blades etc. But the driveline is more than I want to get into on the side of the road or in the parking lot. Went to a local shop they have tried 2 supports that haven't matched up yet. Took a picture and think they have the correct one here now. Let's hope so. It's nice that there is so many of these trucks around still, and readily available parts

Had some time to walk around Asheville. Looks like a very touristy town. Seems a bit like where we are from, kind of a cross between Sonoma and Berkley

Not many towns in in America where you can go to your local "Foot Sanctuary "
Maybe I will if I keep this walking up😀

Sorry for the multiple posts with single pictures, I'm still trying to figure out how to put multiple pictures in the post from my iPhone

What a cool trip you are taking and I'm sure it will be epic. Stop by the Builtmore house in Ashville, the largest house in the U.S.

My wife and I like to take the 5th wheel RV on trips and very seldom will we pass up road-side historical markers. Learn a lot about this great land that way.
