I'm not sure there is actually any performance advantage of wasted spark, it really has to do with having half as many trigger events to keep track of. You basically fire the plug based on the crank trigger alone. My 6 will have that initially when I'm running carbs, mostly because it's just simpler to pull off with an engine that never had a distributor and my options are limited for a simple ignition only crank trigger based ignition that will work with a 6. I'll be using one that is typically used with a Porsche flat 6. The "wasted spark" happens during the exhaust stroke when there is no fuel to burn and the exhaust valve is open so there isn't any real way to gain anything from it.

I ve been sourcing out my spicer front axle locking hubs, finally located everything to switch over my Warn locking hubs to Spicer (everything is differant)
Decided to look up Spicerparts.com.....came up with a service manual w/ exploded view. Home page Drop down to expert Light axle Literature & catalogs 5306-1 The only part i don t have are the 6 bolts and washers. I know they are 10-24, but i don t know the length. Could someone pull one out of their hub, and measure the length? Make sure you retorque to 35-40 in/ pounds.....INCH/POUNDS off the manual I should be able to match them up, once i know for sure wnat the length is....thanks Teaser  [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/97391199@N06/16230701555/]

From bottom of head to end of bolt is 1-3/16" but the threaded area is only about 3/8" of the end here is a a picture of it

Does any one have an idea what would be used to remove this threaded collar with all the little holes in a radial pattern? I consider myself well stocked with tools, but this one is not in my box.
I don t have to remove it now, but if i have to replace a wheel bearing, i would like to have the tool for the job  20150109_083326

Often socket type pin spanners have squarish pegs even though the holes are round, I know that was the case with the "official" hub retention tool from Honda for my bikes, although I ended up making one on a CNC mill.
My project is stalled at the moment, probably pick up in a month or so. I've been sorting out what I need to do to get the intake manifold printed and have pretty much decided to go for carbs initially just to simplify things and get it going faster. My manifold design will do throttle bodies or Webers interchangeably. |

Always wanted to build a SBC w/webers, just for the looks. Might look into changing them over to throttle bodies, i know they do it with hilborn injection

That engine is pretty much the same bore and stroke (give or take a little) as a 4.2 Jag engine, and I'm hoping to get it to sound like an Eagle E-type by the time I'm done. It's also why I'm going for a big 3" single exhaust with as few bends as possible and a before the wheel exit, to kind of exaggerate the doh-pop-pop-pop of a well tuned Jag. I have the DCOE pattern throttle bodies already so already have what I need to mock things up. My biggest problem was getting the spacing right to clear the alternator (which bolts directly to the block on this engine) and maintain the maximum angle for the Weber floats while still providing at least something close to equal length runners. I ended up squeezing the spacing a bit on the design which actually makes the first and last runners a little longer, but I think it'll be ok. It makes all 6 stacks equally spaced which I think will look pretty cool. The added benefit to that is I was really afraid I was going to need to notch the firewall to clear the carbs, and this solves that problem as well. I'm planning at this point to just use known Jaguar jetting and chokes for a Jag engine putting out about the same HP as a base line. The only issue with this is that the Jag engine seems to cap out at about 300HP when they are built up and that is where the Trailblazer engine starts out. So we'll see. |

You say 300+ hp, what will the torque numbers like.....your jimmy isn t quite as slick as a series 1
Got some time to finish up the coil packs, wired. Spacers, at first, didn t work out, but bought thicker wall spacers and can crank down on the mounting stud. Still have to finish up the vertical mounts  20150110_133700

Went to reassemble my hubs and noticed a bind on the locking knob, seems that my old knobs had a bit of a wear pattern. Rather than notch my knobs, i decided to cut the collar that was causing the bind in the first place

When I did my bike tank I started with 3 cans of Ajax kitchen cleanser and water (shake! shake! shake!) followed by 2 days and 2 gallons of white vinegar followed by a sock full of rice for a week. came out perfect.

Yes the rice is to dry out the moisture, so the tank didn't flash rust from the vinegar and the sock was so you could get the rice out again.
