Re: SWB 4x4 was totaled. Now what? Can I get it back?

Now the question is what to do going forward now that you can see the damage. Take there offer? Try to bump there offer up as much as possible? Accept an offer and buy it back as salvage? Accept and offer, walk away and find another original ( will not be easy or fast) ? Repair vehicle using original paint fenders and bed panels in similar condition ( will not be easy unless someone already has these parts for sale ) and roof will have to repainted with some bondo, not worth cutting out roof for another which would still require new paint. Or, now take the truck to the "restored" level ( which most of the K 10's out there fall into this category) and have all the body work done and completely repaint in original colors. The latter will be the most expensive and most will come out of your pocket once you take ownership. Once an all original vehicle gets damaged, it can never be all original again, no matter what insurance company your dealing with.

I can't tell ya after following this thread on what a relief it is to see you finally get your truck.
WHAT A FIASCO!

I'm sure nobody who ever uses a transport co. Ever thinks of things like this happening, the anticipation of the arrival is completely consuming.

Also it just goes to show that being on this board is more beneficial than just the info we share and gather.

My hats off too Ryan for taken his time too help out.

I like a line I heard here on the forum. "It is original only once". I will take my time with this one. I have restored them before by myself, but this time I would like to find someone nearby to do the work as I direct it--but not all at once because I cannot afford it. If the insurance company comes up with some decent money I might have a head start. Time will tell. Overall the body on this truck is excellent. No rust anywhere underneath. Just rust in outer rockers. Underneath rockers are solid. Even the roof has no rust. This is what happens when they spend their life in the Nevada desert. Sun-baked paint, but no rust. Bed is perfect inside since it was protected by the caravan. Now I need and original tailgate. Cplor does not matter since it will be painted but I am going to stick with original sheetmetal.

Happy you have your truck home. Any news yet? It has to be driving you nuts! I know you would rather be driving the truck. Still praying.

Got the truck back. it looks better than I expected. Needs to have the carburetor replaced with a correct quadrajet. I can barely get the present thing to work. But I have crawled all over and under the truck and rust is basically non-existent except for one outer rocker. Nothing anywhere else. it is a good truck. Looks cute too. Thanks for your constant support!

Sounds like it's time to call your states insurance regulators even your own insurance company as you should have had at least 30 days coverage instantly when you bought it unitl it could be photographed for the file.

Where in Nevada did the truck come from ?
I have a second home in Reno. I just hauled my 72 unrestored short bed down there last month and the locals are are all over it. I thought that I would just blend in.
On your truck. If you have not settled with the insurance company , I would hold off on doing any repairs untill you are totally done with them.

It sounds like it's time to stop playing nice, you have been patient wayyyyyy to long. The more you wait the more you will get pushed to the back burner until no one will even know what happened. Best of luck to you.

The truck came from Elko NV. Amazing how rust free the cab and bed are. I have not done anything to it to even begin restoration. Just some minor cleaning up of the cab interior and removal of the caravan.

Re: SWB 4x4 was totaled. Now what? Can I get it back?

A few more photos. The first shows the original build sheet all in shreds beneath the seat. It had been recovered and probably damaged then. But in the next photo you can see another original build sheet that was located between the cardboard and the gas tank. Third is the build sheet itself. Anyone else ever find two build sheets?

That is flippin awesome!

I found the build sheet to my 65 mustang rolled up around the dash harness (common for early mustangs). Never found anything in the C10.

Did you recently read the thread about insurance woes another member is dealing with. Good advice in there from an insurance lawyer.

BTW I just bought a 67 Chevy too. It is an original shortbed stepside 4x4, 4 speed, 6 cylinder. A fellow in California owned it for quite a while and then started to restore it but gave up after doing quite a bit of work. But that was 25 years ago. It has been in storage since then. I just bought it and it needs to be put back together. Engine was rebuilt but is just sitting in the truck not hooked up to anything. But I think it is a worthwhile project considering what it is. Absolutely no rust anywhere! Thanks for your suggestions.
