i need some tires

any suggestions for some GOOD tires that will hookup and are street legal?

the only ones i've seen so far that i'm liking are the M&H drag radials in 275/50/17 (28")

i'm currently running 255/50/17's all around that hook up like crap on the street.

th350 with 2800 stall, 3.73 gears and eaton posi. i know i can get a lot of drag radials if i go down to a 26" tall tire, but thats to low profile for the truck, and i would have to swap out the front

Re: i need some tires

ive heard and experienced good things with MandH but never with a 17''. one thing is that once they start spinning its hard to get it to grab again. its a pretty tempermental tire. but if you wheel it just right they seem to work fairly well. IMO i'd say try em.

Mickey Thompson has a 295/40/17 ET Street Radial... It's 27.2" tall.

Re: i need some tires

Is two sets of tires out of the question? At 17" you give up sidewall and on a slick (stickey radial) the sidewall needs to give in order to prevent shocking the grip. Run a 275/60/15 at the track and the 17"s the rest of the time, then you can find a 28" tall stickey tire anywhere, heck even a slick if you only use them at the track then the only compromise is the two sets of tires rather than a tire that has to hook and work on the street.

I've heard good things about the M&H drag radial . I also wonder if anyone has any experience with the new Hoosiers . I hear they are super lightweight .

From what I have heard & also seen on the drag strip I really don't think you can go wrong with either Mickey Thompson, M & H or Hoosiers. All their tires, whether they be street, strip or street/strip are quality products with a LONG history of racing success. So it's really as they say ..... "size matters" and after that application rather than one brand or another. Man, what a difference from "back in the day" .....

Re: i need some tires

I have always run M/T and had good luck with them , but this time I ordered a pair of Hoosiers . These will be for the track only as I have to run a drag radial in the class i'm moving to . ET streets are on ebay .

Re: i need some tires

Hoosier qwick time pro DOT's for me. Street legal, but just barely. I have heard they will only last a few hundred miles of street driving... but they sounds like it may not be a concern for them. Mine are 28x14.5 on a 15x10" steel wheel, no inner tubes required.

Re: i need some tires

I've been running Hoosier QT and QT Pro's for about 10 years. The Pro's obviously are softer and don't last as long as the treaded QT, but both have held up well and hooked well for the power I was making at the time. I don't think they make them in the 17" size your looking for, and don't know of anyone who does make a super 'sticky' in that size. You may be doomed to tirespin till you find another set of wheeles you like

Re: i need some tires

nitto 555R's kick ass I have them on my 68 and it's got 6psi on a 350 making around 400-420? and I dont think any tire could get any more traction for my setup than what I got now, heat them up just a tad and hang on, they spin for 10-15 feet if your not carful but thats part of the game.

Mine felt real wiggly at 10 PSI. They seemed to like 12 the best. Let us know how you like them!

Re: i need some tires

I hope i'm not high jacking this thread , as he would probably be better off with the Nitto's for more of a daily driver . But here's a look at them they had 22#s in the picture . You can see by the dust they needed to come down . I will try 12#s and see how they work .
