Yup me again with another question

Ok, so I was cleaning out the "collect all" areas on my firewall and I realized that I couldn't get to all the areas. Do you think it would be ok if I drilled a couple of 2inch holes on a few different areas (red arrows) so I could clean out the whole area and keep it cleaner...

All you have to do is take out the kick panel vent doors to get those area's.

Oh really? I didn't even think about that but it makes sense.

Thanks.

Re: Yup me again with another question

I used a Shop-Vac with a smaller hose adapted (duct taped) to the end and jammed it in from both directions (with the vent removed). It took a little time but not much. Oh...don't use your wife's vacuum hose, she won't let you forget it. Don't ask me how I know.

Actually I could see a case for cutting a hole in the outer panel opposite and below the vent to allow cleaning and rust prevention measures you really can't do around the "bell" of the vent hole. Then a semi-permanent coverplate sealed and riveted in place to keep it airtight.

Like the other guys, I removed the vents and used my hands, shop vac, screwdrivers, etc. to get all the big pieces out and then flushed that area with some water to clean up the rest. Once you unclog everything there is a drain at the bottom of the outer edge of the vent to flush the grime away.

After that I ran the garden hose into the cowl from above (after cleaning that out too) and flushed the whole works really good with lots of water to make sure everything was clean and any water could drain.

All the junk that fills those areas up comes in through the cowl below the windshield so if you haven't already put a screen in place under there to keep the debris out you might want to consider it. It helps to keep the big pieces out.

Good luck!
