What Engine Year

Hope all is doing well. To thank everyone for this site, as I have used it for years as a valuable resource.
I have spent many hours researching on this forum and others trying to get the year of the LS engine I've recently purchased. I know the full vehicle VIN is in the PCM but haven't sent it out to get it flashed, but I'd like to order gasket kit and other parts. Based on my research, I believe it's between a 99 and 03 (truck intake, red/blue connectors, engine stamp 12551358, 5.3L etc.). On the flat tab to the rear of the engine, I have located the etched derivative vin, serial number or whatever it's called. The etched digits are CYG163213. Can these digits be used to determine exact year?

Re: What Engine Year

If you have an engine harness ready you can wire it up to the ecm and with some power at the right wires you should be able to scan it and get the vin.

I did this after starting it up because it ran bad at first. I wanted to make sure the motor was decent enough before I started throwing gaskets at it.

Re: What Engine Year

Copied this from another site...

On the front right hand side on the block is a cast date code and it deciphers as follows:
First Letter: Month
A=Jan E=May J=Sep
B= Feb F=Jun K=Oct
C=Mar G=Jul L=Nov
D=Apr H=Aug M=Dec

Next numbers: Day of the month: example "27" , is 27th day of the month
Last number: Last digit of the year example 9=1999

So the block picture below shows the block was cast on Nov, 27, 1999. The circle of dots and the arrow is basically a crude time stamp and will have either a "D" for dayshift or "N" for night shift.

Re: What Engine Year

this may help narrow it down further, does it have EGR if it has the ugly holes in the exhaust manifolds it's a 1999-2001 same goes for the intake manifold if it has that large golf ball hole on the passenger side of the intake manifold it is a 1999-20001, the factory done away with EGR in 2002
