Struggle is real

Finding a clean GEN 1 is not proving easy.

I have looked 6 blazers in the last two weeks, 2 just yesterday, and everyone is rough. From yesterday, one had a frame that could double as a pretzel and the other one was carved out of bondo.

I am looking for one missing a motor and tranny and/or axles so I don't molest a nice one. I have missed out on a few nice ones but it would have been shame to dismantle them.

I have a LLY duramax, allison, NP205 with standalone harness and upgraded Dana 60 and 14 bolt for the swap.

Last year I put a built L92/NV4500 in my single cab 85 4 linked k30. A few months ago did a 6.5 w/ HX35/40 in my daily driver M1009.

I had a white 69 blazer I parted with about 10 years ago. If I had known they would become this scarce I would have never parted with it.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Struggle is real

The Phoenix CL had a decent ochre K5 listed this week that fits what you are after. Good luck.

Re: Struggle is real

On DeadheadNM's recommendation, I did a search for the Ochre K5 in AZ and a 69 Blazer CST also came up.

I contacted the owner for information and pictures. He provided a pretty accurate description but lagged on the pictures. After thinking about for two nights, I decided to ditch work, get up early, and grab the trailer for a drive from Orange County to Phoenix. Complete shot in the dark.

The truck is exactly what I was looking for....a clean titled 1969 K5 Blazer with solid floors and no motor. The guy had a set of extra fenders, new core support and a nice hood. The doors and the passenger side rocker will need work but the price was right.

Any information about on 69 CSTs would be greatly appreciated. Glad I got a chance to save one.

Re: Struggle is real

I wouldn't say that's much of a struggle. I can't remember the last time I saw any 1st Gen other than my own driving on the street, ( it's probably been at least a year), let alone for sale.

Re: Struggle is real

They are very rare up here in the North in any kind of shape. Certainly not rust free unless they were brought up from a dry state.

Good luck with your project. Looks like it has a lot of potential.

Re: Struggle is real

Stripped the truck down to a shell tonight and power washed all the dirt and dust that accumulated over 20 years of sitting in AZ. Pretty amazing it wasn't worse. But with only a few inches of rain and 120 degree days that truck stayed dry. The seam sealer has turned to potato chips.

Looks like I found the original color under the dash.

Re: Struggle is real

I would say finding one for sale is rare. There are an awful lot of happy owners out there, not a lot of people looking to sell. And who can blame them?

Damn, that is nice. You wouldn't have any more pictures of that truck? Maybe of the interior?

Re: Struggle is real

It's kinda funny how people from the Southern US are having difficulty finding rust free vehicles. Just for a minute, think about the struggle we Canadians go through to build a vehicle. Even if we do get our hands on something restorable, just getting the parts to our door costs about double what Americans pay. "Free Shipping" WTF is that?? I would give my left nut to have the luxury of being able to get anything at a reasonable cost. It's like Russia up here !! Automotive paint (solvent) has been banned, we can't buy refrigerant (134A), and the emission police are pulling our cars off the road. I should have gotten my green card years ago.
Rant's over !! LOL

Re: Struggle is real

I can only imagine the struggles living in Canada.

My cousin who lived in Edmonton at the time redid a 57 Chevy Bel Air a bunch of years ago. He flew down to orange county, bought all his parts @ danchuk, rented a u-haul and drove back. I can imagine if you tried that now you would be arrested at the border but it was the only way he restore the car at a reasonable cost. My cousins still have things shipped to my house and pick it up when the come down.

Classic Industries is about 10 minutes away and the Truck Shop is in Orange.
