292 question
Hello guys,
okay so i have a 292 and i wanted to know what manual trans would blot right up. I have a 4 speed know that came with it but its to big and was out of a 3/4 ton. i want something a lil more friendly. thanks

It's the same bell housing pattern as any SBC or BBC or L6 or 4.3. Only thing to watch is that the L6 with a manual trans may have a bell housing mounted starter. If so, you need to check that the holes are drilled in the block for the block mounted version. Then you can run pretty much any pre-LS Chevy trans, using apprpriate flywheel, clutch, and bell. Your drive shaft and trans support may need to be altered depending on the length of the new trans. As an example, my 72 manual trans 250 is getting a 1987 200-4R auto out of a Caprice, and my other one is going 3 speed manual to 4 speed manual overdrive.
