turn signal and wiring issues

hi guys hopefully someone can help me. so I am having issues with my rear left taillight not working with brake or signal and my front right signal not working. but my opposite ones do work. also my front head lights only turn on when high beam is on. going crazy! any help would be appreciated it is a 1969 c10 thanks.

When did it work and what was done to it since then? I assume this didn't all just stop working all at once.

First thing to do would be to check every ground in the lighting circuit.

Second thing is to check all of the bulbs individually out of their sockets. Multiple-filament lamps like an 1157NA up front can short across the circuits. I guess that could happen in a headlight too but I've never seen it.

Third thing would be to put two brand new flashers in it. They're dirt cheap. Doesn't sound like they're the problem but they're so cheap just do it.

Fourth thing would be to go back and do the ground thing I listed first but that everyone skips "because hey, it's just the ground, and the truck's made of steel, nothing to worry about."

Then you need to start tracing wires. Start with the park lights, then low beam, then high beam, then flasher/signal. They're all different colors, so are easy to follow.

I -thought- they're only relevant for the gauges, but check the two little fuses in the front corners of the truck in the lighting harness. One on each front corner. I have a vague memory of my side-marker-flasher not working when one was missing, but it could just be I'm confusing two memories.

hi just pulled some stuff apart in the dash to paint the dash then put it all back together. I don't believe it is grounded all that different places. could that be it? it is just grounded from negative battery to fender and to the frame in the front. Where else should I do it. thanks

Had the same issue with tailight after i changed dash. check and see if all of the pins in the main connector under dash havent slide out alil and lost contact. Two of my pins had pushed out the connector some and wasnt making contact. I am talking about the steering plug.

Make sure the cluster ground wire is still connected, (picture below) and like Wrcampbell mentioned, check all of the connectors. Also, sometimes the cluster connectors on the printed circuit board will come loose from the plastic backing and not make contact when the plug is inserted..... These suggestions may not all directly affect your problem but may be related.

As far as the grounds just go by the pictures in the link I posted. Definitely from the frame or engine to the cab and from the frame to the bed.

On the headlights I would check the operation of dimmer switch with a meter, and the connector plug on it. They are known for corrosion problems.

I have one grey wire hanging. there are two that are coming out of dash harness I just don't know where the one goes. any ideas? possibly

I replaced every bulb and now I have more issues. lol. now my wiper doesn't work headlights don't work and dash lights don't work.

I had similar issues and can tell you, re-checking the grounds fixed most of my issues. Make sure you have the correct bulbs in the correct places. Also, the dimmer switches on these trucks aren't the most robust devices, and the parts store ones are junk, so that could be a possible source of issue with your headlights. Best of luck!

thanks. wiring issues are the worst. I might need to add some more grounds as well. I will try and clean all of them

Sometimes you may think you have good grounds, but if your cab is rusty even the best ground straps can be fighting an uphill battle. Keep us posted on your issues. There hasn't been one electrical issue yet (I've rewired front to back and suck at wiring) that this board hasn't been able to solve.

The grey is used for heater panel,glovebox, under dash lights.

Had similar issues... These guys are dead on!

I had luck with turn signals by pulling the steering wheel and spraying the contacts with electrical contact spray. Signals work now.
