The end of an era........

you know, things change for the better sometimes. my wife and I are expecting my second son next month and my 4 year old is an avid motorhead already. my family is getting bigger and I enjoy spending as much time with them as I possibly can. my family is my world.

a few months ago, I started thinking about selling my '69 to purchase a vehicle that the whole family could tag along to shows. things jumped from thinking about selling, to actually printing a for sale sign, to attending Goodguys, to signing over the title to another owner.

an so, it is. on Saturday I sold the '69 to a very nice guy from Minnesota. I have sold more cars, trucks, and motorcycles through the years than I can count, but this one actually hurt a bit. I know it's heading to a great home, I was able to turn a bit of a profit on the sale, I know I now have the moolah to buy a nice burb, K5, or wagon (GM OF COURSE!!), but I will sincerely miss the truck. I sacrificed skin, blood, sweat, and health on her, but in the final analysis, I'm sad, but happy. hard to explain.......

regardless, I am not leaving the board. this place has become the first website I visit when I crack open the laptop. you guys are more family than names and avatars on a webpage. you all are caring and truly good folks. I may be out of the truck scene for a while, but it won't dissipate my fondness for these great, dependable old GM truck.

I will be contacting the new owner to ask him to become a member on the forum. he's a good guy and I believe he'll enjoy the ol' girl as much as I did....

this picture is still on my office. Ben, we'll get something that mom and Jackson can ride in. we have shows to attend and roadtrips to make.......

Life goes on....and on....and on. I know how you feel. I've sold vehicles for reasons that now make little/no sense. But, when you have a family, a mans' gotta do whatta mans' gotta do.

Congrats on the sale Doug. I am glad to hear you aren't leaving us for good. If it would make you feel any better. I could bring some parts up from time to time for ya to rejunvenate, unless your brother beats me to it. Good luck with the future project bud. Trevor

Doug, before you know it, you're going to be showing those young'uns how to turn a wrench. There is life on the other side - I finally got my youngest graduated from college last year, and I'm taking up where I left off.

Congrats on your burgeoning family!

Re: The end of an era........

I am new here, but I for sure know how you feel. About 20 years ago, I sold my '72 shortwide that I had put lots of time and miles in. I have been kicking myself ever since. I have had other '67-'72 trucks since, but none that I ever bothered to do much with. Now I have my late uncles '70 and its game on once again. Except this time, I can afford it! Still, since I have came on this forum, I keep hoping to see a pic of my old truck. Letting go of the truck for the family is probably the best reason there is to do it. I just let mine go out of stupidity.

Re: The end of an era........

I know where you're coming from on this one. I've been temted to sell mine since the second one came along. I just can't bring myself to get rid of it. My dad also has alot invested and he keeps talking me out of selling it. I do get aggravted occasionally because we can't just jump in and go like we used to. A Blazer, Burb, Chevelle, Impala or some kind of wagon would be ideal.

Good luck on your next purchase. Look forward to seeing what you can do with it.

Doug, Go check out 55-57 Burb on highway 7 south of Harrisonville. It looks pretty straight from the road.

Re: The end of an era........

Doug,

A guy has to do what it takes to keep the family afloat. Enjoy your children while they are young, they will be grown before you know it.

You don't have to have a truck to spend time on the board. You have a lot of knowledge to share with others. I am not working on my trucks right now, but I still check out this site a couple of times a day to see how everyone is doing and to gain more knowledge.

Sucks to sell, but trucks are easy to replace. Enjoy the kids while they are young and fun, because it goes by quick and then they become a pain in the wallet!

Hey, since you aren't gonna be needing it anymore, how 'bout that interior heater delete?
