69 GMC C20 Core support repair or replace

My current core support is rusted out on both sides as the truck came with dual batteries. The main mounting points are pretty bad also but the top 2/3 of the core support is in good condition. My question is basically is it better to get a cheaper Chevy core support and cut the bottom off and weld it to my current one or should I drop the extra cash and get the GMC specific one from GMC Pauls and just swap it out.

I have heard that the reproduction ones dont fit as well but I dont know where specifically the issues with the fit are.

Since the bottom of the core support is the same I think it could work but it might not be worth the work if the reproduction one is a good fit.

Has anyone here welded 2 core supports together to make one good one?? I was thinking I could cut it right at the bottom of the opening for the radiator to make the cuts shorter??

I did a lot of work to my core support, in hind sight I should have sourced another one. IMO, I'd look for a good used one.

Can't you buy a chevy one and move the headlight buckets from the old to the new? I thought someone mentioned that one time.

Today I was looking at the one I took out of my truck and replaced with an aftermarket. I still believe it was a good decision to replace instead of repair. Only one side was rusted, but the whole bottom was rusty and would need some patching.

Re: 69 GMC C20 Core support repair or replace

@Jason. I think you are correct in that you can transfer the headlight buckets. I was trying to avoid shipping a repop GMC one as they are over 100 in shipping. think I can get a Chevy one within driving distance...

@Problems. Thanks for the offer. If I was closer to you I just might go for that. By the time it gets over to my neighborhood it will be 300$.

So then it's a question of Transfer the headlight buckets or swap the bottom. ??

Brothers Trucks is in Corona. Is that close enough to drive over and pickup a new one and save shipping? Their's are $269 I think.
