Talking Lets see your trailer

I was on face book and this guy has this for sell!

I love the camper, car hauler idea! This is pretty cool idea right here. I'd wished he posted more pictures of it though.

Re: Lets see your trailer

Digging the concept of the combo car hauler/living space. Would be just the ticket for moving a car/truck to a non local and distant show. Wonder how much if any "beefing up" was involved. Looks like a rather well done home made conversion?

Looks like that might be a '55 Buick? My folks had a '55 4 door Buick Special I recall traveling across country in it many times.

Re: Lets see your trailer

I love the appearance of being a travel trailer. I doubt it is any kind of camper any more. No different than a cargo trailer inside, just open space. If that is an actual camper on it's original frame, then there would have certainly been some frame beefing up required to carry a vehicle. I figure there had to be a door added to the driver side to allow the person in the driver seat to open the door and get out. I wonder if it isn't a travel trailer shell craftfully fitted to a car hauler trailer. I kind of doubt it.

I always figured if I had an enclosed trailer to haul a vehicle I would put camper windows in it and paint vintage camper graphics on it. Sort of the opposite what I see here.

My friend had a '55 Special he was making into a gasser. He had a Ford Super Duty hood scoop like they used to use and all. The real Super Duty, not just the name they use today on light trucks.

Re: Lets see your trailer

If he didn't beef up the cross braces and the subflooring that car is going to dragging soon on the street. Done rebuilds on campers they use the cheapest stuff since the floor has very little weight on it . Not unusual to have 1/2 inch chipboard and 24 on center floor joists made out of thin steel. Sidewalls are 99% of the time 2x2 pine fastend with big staples . Without the rear structure I'm sure that thing racks going down the road

Re: Lets see your trailer

This can seriously overload the camper frame, axles, springs and tires. Anyone notice the Honda Ridgeline hooked to that loaded trailer? This is a bad idea all around.
I hope it is just a bad joke.

Re: Lets see your trailer

If your going to do something like this it's better to go from a car hauler and add living space.

There is a fella that has one of those really long old school Airstream type all aluminum trailers to house his stream liner at the Salt Flats. Its very cool, and very updated underneath for safe towing, vehicle and parts storage.

Airstream trailers are the Cadillacs of tag alongs. Me and my uncle had them . If you buy a late 50 early 60s model it was basically an aircraft made into a trailer. Would love to get another but they bring some serious money

Those are nice trailers.

A friend I had years ago had one similar to the square one, and he restored it. So it had all the 70's goodness. It was the only way his wife would go camping with him.

Re: Lets see your trailer

We have a 1970 17' Roadrunner. The hail beat it up pretty bad about seven years ago and it needs some fixin' up. Might have a picture somewhere of it in better days. It's about the fifth camper trailer that I've owned, plus the 10x50 MH. These days I prefer a single unit to roam around in.

Re: Lets see your trailer

Here is my trailer, I can't sleep in it!

20' Hull tilt, with 7000# axles, drive over fenders, extra wide floor.
The only thing I would order differently now is an electric tilt, and stretch it to 22'.

You shouldn't have a trailer for your car truck or bike. Now a trailer behind your bike at the tail of the dragon is another story

Re: Lets see your trailer

This is what you would call the cheapskate model. But it comes in handy. Between my C/20 and the trailer I can haul quite a bit. And it was only 200 bucks from my neighbor and I never even know it's there when I pull it.

Unless I'm backing up. Then I know it's there.

Don't feel bad. I have a 4 x 8 jiffy trailer, too. It's very handy

I use the heck out of my little 5 x 10 utility trailer. Just hauled a load of river stone the other day and week before a load of 4" block. It has a 3000# capacity. sides are removeable. I removes the ramp gate and made a tailgate so I can haul long things on top of the rails or have a 12' deck. I've used it to haul my Harley to Myrtle Beach Bike Week and am not ashamed to say so. My don't grandparents were living there and the trailer enabled me to bring our bicycles, surf boards, all the beach gear, and our son my son. it was family beach time all day and mom & dad time on the bike at night while my son got quality time with Mom Mom and Pop Pop. It's family first for this biker.

I don't own a car hauler or equipment trailer. I usually call on my friend for that when needed. This time I called him to haul a load of parts for himself that was offered to me that I passed on to him for always being there for me
