Hood corner patch

How would you fabricate a patch panel for the compound hood corner? I have body hammers and a sand bag. No fancy English Wheels, shrinker or stretchers. Lots of previous damage...about 3/8" of body filler or more. You can see how far it needed to come out when I made the vertical cut. Many dent puller holes already welded up (which shrunk the metal). The portion cut out was swiss cheese and I needed access to fit the rest. TIA.

Re: Hood corner patch

without tools, youll just have to form it by hand...I made a cab corner for mine and I started it by hand bending it around a 4in pipe...I think I had 6-7 pieces that I welded all together... ...If you can use the good side as a pattern , itll get you close..
you can also use heavy paper to make a pattern of what you need..then transfer it over to metal...that's the way I did mine...
a contour transfer tool will be a big help

Re: Hood corner patch

I'd find a doner hood to cut the patch out for the hood your working on. Plenty of guys would be willing to cut it out for you and ship it. Just place a wanted ad.

Re: Hood corner patch

I agree with getting a patch from a donor hood. It will much easier and a lot less stressful.

Can it be done using hand tools sure. But you are going to have to make it in about 6 or so pieces because of all the contours involved

Thanks, that is exactly how I make most of my patch panels. But the hood is a different beast...all compound curves/shapes and not really any angles to breakup the pieces. I will figure something out.

Re: Hood corner patch

David...heres the cab corner patch I made for my IH..i dd use a shrinker/stretcher, but the rest was hand formed...a donor hood patch would be ideal for sure...but I dont see it being unmakable either....
