72 Turquoise 4wd CST Blazer

Picked this up one week ago. Not sure what to name her yet. I'm very happy about the purchase. Its pretty darn complete. The only thing its missing is factory A/C but I can live with it the way it is. Very little rust, single wall top, a good running 350 from an 86 corvette...Oh, and everything is covered in sweet marine vinyl from the early 90s.

Not exactly sure what the plans are for it yet, but for now just clean it up and cruise it.

How are you guys able to deduce that it is a Highlander? Or is that just a joke about my super-cool 90s marine upholstery??

That is a very nice K5! Is the full wheel covers the indicator in the spid that it is a highlander?

Re: 72 Turquoise 4wd CST Blazer

Not the wheelcovers...mine all had that on the spid (none were highlanders) and my current Jimmy also had full wheel covers. Some spids actually say highlander on them but Ive read on the forum that there are 3 levels of highlander. Im sure Pete will chime in here and he will tell us.

Maybe its the 167110 Custom Trim Combination? I don't really care too much, but I'm just curious now.

Re: 72 Turquoise 4wd CST Blazer

I found one similar picture on the interweb. Similar color truck and upholstery if I read the spid correctly.

Yep, the 671 rpo custom trim combo denotes Gray plaid highlander trim - cool beans. I don't know how to decode the rpo for the paint color though. Suffice to say it's a nearly unique blazer that I'd love to have

Re: 72 Turquoise 4wd CST Blazer

Parchment interiors with a black dash pad and/or a black non tilt steering column should arouse suspicion for a highlander - k5s with camper mirrors and parchment interior should as well for a promo package highlander.

Re: 72 Turquoise 4wd CST Blazer

My understanding is that RPO 001 denotes a custom order paint color--basically anything other than the standard 15 colors offered in 1972.

Re: 72 Turquoise 4wd CST Blazer

The current plan is just to clean it up and drive it. And hopefully pull the top off soon!

On my short list are:
It needs the power steering gearbox rebuilt because it leaks like it is its job.
Contemplating hydroboost brakes. But this will put me on the path to depart from keeping this truck relatively stock...which could spiral out of control!
I need to fix some gauges or associated issues: the speedometer reads 20% too low, the tachometer reads to high and the fuel gauge doesn't work at all.
I can't lock the rear hatch so I need to figure out how to remove the handle and see if I can get it re-keyed.
I have collected an Edelbrock 4bbl intake and an Edelbrock quarajet carburetor that I need to swap onto it and then tune it.
I need to give the paint a good polish to cut the 20 years of oxidation buildup.
I would like to find some 15x8 wheels for it that fit a stock dog dish hub cap (good luck!)
Replace all the rubbers on the single wall top.

I am debating whether or not to swap 3/4-ton or 1-ton axles under it, or keep it 1/2 ton. My other two 4x4 trucks are both 3/4 and 1-ton...

Swapped on some 15x8 Kelsey wheels with 33x12.5 Goodyear Duratracs and polished dog dish caps. I think it looks better already!

Re: 72 Turquoise 4wd CST Blazer

I pulled off the crappy 1986 engine accessories and brackets and picked up a serpentine setup from a 95 Blazer at the Pick a Part. I pulled a hydroboost unit as well. Now it is time to rebuild the hydroboost, power steering pump and power steering gearbox before I put them in.

I also picked up a new 1972 Corvette master cylinder. I like these style better because they splash and leak less than the early truck type units.

Lastly I pulled off the tiny 2bbl carb and intake manifold and dry fit the edelbrock performer intake with edelbrock quadrajet 1901 carburetor. Hopefully that will get bolted in tomorrow and then the HEI can be re-curved and installed too.

I want to drive it again! But so much work to do!

Cool truck and nice color... I like the factory hubcap look too, but I think they would look better if they were painted white. The truck is a light color and with the white roof I think white is the way to go.... just my 2 cents...

Very KOOL Blazer Jason.. yrs ago I had a 72... with those big ole tires you gonna have to lift it now....I can barely keep one going let alone as many as you have...but If I could have that many I probably would...

Re: 72 Turquoise 4wd CST Blazer

I don't want to lift this one much. The plan is to replace the factory 2-leaf with factory 3-leaf plus a 1" zero rate and install a 2" block in the rear. Its either that or a set of 2" aftermarket lift springs. But I don't want it to be stiff; I learned that the hard way on Big Ugly.

I saw your Blazer on the do you have a plaid blazer thread. I really like the tire and wheel combo you chose. I even like it here at what Im assuming is stock height. Looks very burly!
