im looking for an ignition switch for my '49AD. I would like one that fits in the original location, has start & accessory positions. Any ideas? Thanks

According to Filling station that part number is good to use on a truck https://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb...Z5Z5Z50000014x

THE PROBLEM IS= 49 and 50 Chevy cars had a push button starter on the dash.

Even if you bought that switch that Zippi showed or the one I show you still have to have a push button as it won't start with the key. I've got the 49 and 50 Chevy car wiring diagrams sitting beside me on the table that show that both years use a push button. It does have a se[arate Auxiliary post though.

My motor's auto wiring diagram book was printed in 1952 and shows that Chevy cars up though 52 had push button starters.

American auto wire, 4 position .25 connection for a one inch hole part # 500005

I just used Speedway's generic keyed ignition switch. It fit perfectly in the factory hole and has accessory and start positions.

I've never had any luck with a "generic" aka universal switch staying in place in my 48. I put one in in the 70's and it would always come loose in the hole. That was a parts house unit that had a smaller diameter though.

I never had an issue with a push button to start the truck and in a lot of respects it is a safety item. Personally I like the idea of a hidden start button even if it is connected to the key switch start wire.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist.
