s10 leaf spring & shackle direction

Im doing an s10 swap with my 54 chevy pickup. I took off the leaf springs of the s10 to clean them up and didnt make a note of the direction to put them back on. One side is slightly longer than the other. I assume that goes towards the back. Is that correct? Also, the shackle has one side open and one side with a brace. Does the open side go towards the front?

Not near my truck right now, so I cannot check. However, if you measure you should be able to see where the bump stop comes on the springs and the axle and then determine if the long side of the spring needs to go to the front or the rear.

Re: s10 leaf spring & shackle direction

pretty sure you will find the short end of the spring goes to the front in order to compensate for spring wind up under acceleration, here is a link to the gm upfitter page with some frame info that shows axle center line in relation to the frame. maybe helpful?

https://www.gmupfitter.com/files/med...LD_STTruck.pdf

as far as the shackles go, the open end of the shackle needs to go up to fit the frame between the outside parts of the shackle, and the brace between the 2 side pieces goes towards the bottom rear side of the springs. the bolts go through from the inside out so the nut goes on the outside of the frame.
maybe this link will show better than my explanation on the shackles and the bolt.
