I tore the truck down from the PO and just got a new 383 (420Hp) built and bought a level 3 700r4 from BowtieOD...installed but hadn't crank it yet; am going to withing the next month. I got 3.08 gears in the rear end and am hearing from 305/350ci owners that the OD runs in too low of RPMs with the 3.08 and they have trouble with power when passing. Hadn't drove it yet but will give feedback when I do.

Also I seen a yellow truck on this thread with the same Raceline wheels I have...this may/may not be how they'll look when you get them nice and tuck'd in...I bought the truck with this stance, looks like a C notch was installed in the frame for the rear, front is stock suspension.

Wade, how did the 4L80E fit, did you have to modify the floor besides just changing to a high hump? How much room do you have from the transmission to the floor? Also, what headers are you running?

Re: My 72 with 405/25/24's

Hey Keith,

Only thing I did was change to the high hump, no other mods. If I remember correctly I had about 1-1.5" clearance. I did trim the big "ears" off both sides of the 4L80. I'm running Sanderson ceramic headers, I don't remember the number (there kind of a short header). I can try to find the number if you need.

BTW: keep working on that body work, it's coming together.

Thanks, your running the mild front dropmember correct? I'm running the touring front which sits an inch higher in the framerail. I'm just trying to figure out how much room I will have, I really don't want to modify the floor at this point. If you could find the part number of the headers for me I would appreciate it.

Keith - putting in the high hump is only about an hours worth of work. You will save yourself a lot of headaches later, if you do it now. JMHO. Take care,

Rob I already have the high hump installed, I'm trying to figure out if I would have to modify the floor even more to fit the 4L80E. I know you have to on the extreme front dropmember but I'm running the Touring in the front.

Re: My 72 with 405/25/24's

Thanks for the compliments guys. Appreciate it.

Keith, yes I'm running the mild dropmember with the "touring" upper hats. I really doubt you'd have any more mods to do on the floor, the hump should be plenty. I should be able to get the number for headers tomorrow.

Re: My 72 with 405/25/24's

At the time they were, and it worked. But I wanted lower which changes everything. I now have a 2X4 back half with porterbuilt trailing arms and 24X15 trailing arm crossmember now.

Re: My 72 with 405/25/24's

Not at the moment. I have it up in the air, changed from the mild "cheese grader" dropmember to the new version 7 extreme and in the rear doing a back half to narrow the frame rails by 3" per side. Sold my wheels and got another set, same style, but with a brushed face and a 15" wide instead of 14" (I like the way the tire fits better). Also changing the interior back to a stock one with off white panels and black carpeting. I'll update soon as I it gets back in one piece (hopefully not too long. 🤔&#128580.
