Re: Crewcab build

Are you going to keep the step up in the roof from the first cab all the way back or cut it out and just step up at the back cab??? Just curious. Jerry

I was debating this the other day, I think I'm going to keep it flat until the rear cab.
Anyone got a Surburban roof the want to donate?

So, you decided on the suicide doors. That's gonna be sweet. I do have a question, though. For the latch assembly, are you going to use the B pillar/latch setup as the front of the rear set of doors so that the front door will overlap slightly and be seamless?(not sure if this ? makes sense/is worded properly) Just wondering on the exact plan of attack.
This is how I would do a crew cab if I were going to leave out the B pillar!

I would keep the front cab as is and and keep the roof high from that point back. It will be like the burb roof line and have a nice factory look to it. You will also gain a small bit of head room in the back seat.

I'd like the pillarless idea, but I'm just not comforable engineering something that locks together that way. My 01 Silverado squeaks from this area, I'd rather have 4 true doors, and no weird sounds.
So the sub roof rises up front, I hadn't noticed that before, it is definately something I will be looking at. Unfortunatly, no extra headroom, it's double walled on the inside and flat from front to rear.

Re: Crewcab build

I think flat roof all the way to the back. more asthetically pleasing.
I have a spare truck roof, but you could probably get a whole truck for what the shipping would cost.

I found a pic of a rough one. :

Re: Crewcab build

What I find really interesting is that the old style's keep comming back around. Look at the above add for the 4dr super short bed truck. Finaly chevy built one a few years ago to compete with all the ford explorer and toyota trucks that have come out with 5'+ beds. I think they look great with shorter beds on them but chevy forgot they have been doing this for 40+ yrs and all these young kids think it is a new invention

We have not decided on what year it will be (wife wants the 67-72) yet but we will be building a C50/60 into a 4dr short fleet bed for a tow rig/ family hauler with 10lug rims, duely and a diesel to boot. I think a 2ton dropped with side tanks (covered) and custom duelly fenders on the fleet side towing a 5th wheel trailer or my 70 2WD show Blazer (when I finish it) to the shows. I guess it depends what I find first or I might just build the cab and find a new salvaged 2ton chassie and build off that!

Re: Crewcab build

I've pondered what a '64-'66 cab upfront would look like with a '60-'63 cab in the back... because of the way the doors lean forward on the '60-'63... I've thought it'd look snazzy since the '64-'66 doors the back of the door angles in toward the front like.

If that makes any sense...

Anyway, this looks like an interesting project to follow.

good luck,

-W

This whole pillarless thing is killing me, I now see why they have one the conversions. It's going to be very slick when it's done, but this is causing me a major headache! I'll bring the camera along tomorrow, and post some pictures later in the afternoon.
