Thinking about staying with the 16.5 wheels until I figure out what I’m doing next -

I figured I would stick with the 16.5 wheels And get some tires to run until I decide if I’m going with a different rear end and/or disc brakes. The only difficult part is finding tires to fit the 16.5 rims. Pretty sure they’re out there, just not sure if there are any major problems with going this way. I found some on the web, I’ll post a link.
A lot of these tires seem to be trailer tires, are they ok to run on these trucks?

I do not think it would be wise to run a trailer tire on your truck. Maybe see if you can find a local big truck tire shop or a tire shop that provides tires for bigger trucks? Good chance they might be able to steer you in the right direction

I bought my white wall tires from Diamond tires. Should fit perfect. They have other classic looks too. I replaced all of my old wheels with ones from wheel vintiques. called smoothies. Powder coated them black. Can be found on summit too. The spare is an original but the caps don't fit so I am ordering a another one for it to complete the look.

Re: Thinking about staying with the 16.5 wheels until I figure out what I’m doing nex

where at in CA?

Firestone Transforce HT 9.50R16.5LT I picked cheap..

from an old post-

STA, Specialty Tires of America [American Made] has the best selection and prices on farm skinnys I've found..

this is the brand Coker sells [in this tire type] for double the price, yes I was quoted

here's the last price quote I had from local tire vendor for the sizes I'm looking at;

LA4B5-$148
LA4C5-$156
LB4B5-$158
LB4C5-$161

transport fronts http://www.stausaonline.com/tires/sta-super-transport/
8.75-16.5LT A D/8 LA4B5 HWY 16/32 29.80 6.75X16.5 9.00 2070 60 2350 60 37
9.50-16.5LT A D/8 LA4C5 HWY 17/32 30.60 6.75X16.5 9.30 2445 60 2780 60 41

traxxion rears http://www.stausaonline.com/tires/sta-super-traxion/
8.75-16.5LT A D/8 LB4B5 M&S 18/32 29.90 6.75X16.5 8.80 60 2070 60 2350 37
9.50-16.5LT A D/8 LB4C5 M&S 18/32 31.10 6.75X16.5 9.50 60 2445 60 2780 41

sticking with the 16.5s I currently have due to better tire selection in this type of tire.. factory 15" 8 lug snap-rings too rusty..

I would really like to get the newer 16" wheels, however, everyone is asking so much for these wheels. There's a guy on Craigslist asking $600 for four wheels and tires. Maybe that's not a lot to most people, but geez - $600? I know, I'm cheap...

I'm in the opposite end of orange county, reason I asked, I may take a fork int he road with my wheels and tires and curious if you were close enough in case I have something for you..

however, if I were looking for some 16" wheels, that craiglist ad is a deal!

wheels are $70-$90 new aftermarket repop, wheel vintiques are $125ish..

if those are factory ford wheels, they're accurides, excellent wheels..

and this is definitely worth the balance "The tires are in great condition. They have over 90% tread and the DOT is from 2019. They are Goodyear wrangler load range E tires size LT245/75/16"

good luck!

I’m wondering if the offset will be correct. Can’t really drive the truck all the way over there, the tires I have are so cracked, I’m surprised they’re still holding air.

Is the inside wheel offset the only critical dimension, aside from the lug pattern?

Re: Thinking about staying with the 16.5 wheels until I figure out what I’m doing nex

I'm no expert but I believe the factory wheels would be near neutral offset..

according to this looks like .25" offset
https://ricksontruckwheels.com/wheels-oe.php

a lot of those ford accurides are mounted on trucks in this forum..

I actually have two five-wheel sets but haven't mounted any of them yet, so I'm no help..

hopefully someone can speak up soon, I doubt those wheels/tires will last long..

new rubber near full tread Goodyear wranglers are worth the fare alone in that deal..

more thorough searching threads here may turn up some info but I struggle finding stuff unless I posted it LoL

I'm slammed with work n chores but if you absolutely need it, I may be able to help with pickup depending how far you are, I'm a good 30-40 min from montebello..

good luck!

What size hubcap fits on those 16.5's? They look like nub style wheels, which in 8-lug terms usually means a later 12" hubcap. In other words, you may not be able to fit a stock looking cap on them without adding clips.

yer right about that, can't get there from here that I've found.. 67?-up 12" is all I know of..

none of the clip style caps will direct fit the nub wheels that I'm aware of.. in my case the 15" snap ring wheels were rusted beyond safe limits and not sure how plentiful any 16 or 16.5 clip 8 lug wheels are, where and how much, etc..

I haven't found a solution yet.. I have no idea why someone isn't making 60-66 3/4t style caps to fit nubs wheels.. I recently acquired some driver quality caps of each to experiment with.. wish me luck

I have one 16” rim, the outside offset is 1/4” less than the 16.5” rim. Not sure if that will make a difference.

Exclamation Re: Thinking about staying with the 16.5 wheels until I figure out what I’m doing nex

until someone can post a confirmation, can you mount it up and see if it clears everything?

but your gm 16 is 6.5 wide and the fords are 16 x 7 so there may be minor differences there..

your 16.5s 6.75 wide?

I can't imagine any issues unless you have some aftermarket or oversized disc brakes or control arms or something..

or the hubcap issue oem4me mentioned if that's of concern right for you..

The hubcaps on my 16.5 rims are held on with what looks like RTV sealant. Is this standard for these hubcaps?

Wow, I'm surprised those stayed on there! Your wheels are not original to your 63. You have later model wheels that use nub style hubcaps. The original 3/4 ton hubcaps mounted with clips.

Any pics of what these clips look like?

Suggestions? Should I try and install clips?
