My carb is crap

Looking for recommendation on a new/rebuilt plug-n-play carb for my 63 292 straight six. I just want something that will bolt on and just work.

After I rebuilt this Carb for the third time, it seems to be wet with gas around the upper gasket, where the top piece bolts on. After I shut it off, the throttle opening has vapor around it, like it’s flooded. Also, when I blip the throttle it does not accelerate, it just stumbles and wants to die. New accelerator pump too.

This maybe a B carb, could be a modified BV. The Choke is manual, but it looks like it may have been automatic.

Why not have it professionally rebuilt:

Re: My carb is crap

Is the float misadjusted or sticking?

Float level can be critical to carb performance.

Not sure if mine is the original carb.
Rather just buy a new one.

Went through the adjustments, everything looks fine. I reinstalled the old gasket and it doesn’t leak as much.

Typical issues you're having. This will work,^^^^ but you need to get an air cleaner setup for it, and adjust the fuel mixture for a 292 with an inspection of the spark plugs after a drive.
If your old carb hesitates on acceleration, something's wrong with the accelerator pump. Most likely.
Or timing. Or secondary ignition. Or points gap. Or condenser...

Re: My carb is crap

I've had a few carb kits with defects in the new parts as well....

Re: My carb is crap

I had the very same trouble with stumbling off the line even after a rebuild which included a new accelerator pump. I'll shorten the long frustrating story by saying you might have missed something.
Look down the throat of the carb with a good light source, jab the throttle, and you should see a healthy squirt of fuel into the throat. If you don't see that, your new pump is bad or its passage is clogged. The tiny passage outlet in the carb throat was plugged up in my case. One more trip to the work bench, a fine wire, more carb spray, and a few blasts of compressed air solved the issue once and for all.
Now if you DO see a stream of fuel, simply go over float level, ignition timing, wires, vacuum leaks, coil health, points and condenser, linkage wear, air cleaner, fuel pump, atmospheric pressure, ambient temperature, relative humidity, and astrologic convergence. You should be good. Lol.

Re: My carb is crap

I feel your pain. Rochester Bs are prone to warp, I would bet 99% of them are. Next time you split it open, place a straight edge on it to see if the horn is bowed. There's multiple solutions on the internet to fix or at least lessen that annoying dribble at the gastket. As for the acceleration, or lack of, check out this video which addresses the issue, also, checking the vacuum and adjusting might help a bit. If you're truly tired of it and want to move on, I've heard good things about monojets and there's other options like this that might be a good fit. Good luck.

Re: My carb is crap

Is there an Aftermarket bolt on carb that would work? Anyone have any experience here?

I think I may have made some progress, however, I have to take care of the exhaust leaks first.

Also, it started easier; it idles, but not for long. Seems to just idle slower and and slower after about 10-20 seconds. Then just dies.

Re: My carb is crap

Rock Auto. Autoline C936 rebuilt stock carb. $133.79. No monkey business with a stock rebuilt carb. I have used Autoline rebuilt carbs in the past and they performed excellent.

Re: My carb is crap

Does it make a weird whistling sound at idle or on acceleration? maybe a vacuum leak at the intake- very common issue. Is the exhaust manifold cracked?
