Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

John is running a roller cam, so a rapid cam failure is not an issue.

This is what happens when you're too poor to even pay attention. I obviously need to go back over John's build thread. Interested to hear what shows up when the intake comes off.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

First (ha!) mistake was tossing the box that my lifters came in. It was a cam/lifter "kit" and I reached out TWICE to ask what lifters came in the "kit". Comp shows two different sets, one is a "short stroke" but in both inquiries I was told "853-16". I ordered a 853-2 to replace the goobered one. Guess what, those are much different. Pushrods will be longer and the lands and oil hole are located differently. There's some confusion on what lifters are correct but it'll have to wait until Monday... Ugh! I do have some exhaust to work on and a carb spacer to tap for hose barbs. I'll get this... Happy Thanksgiving!!

Wow, long time, no post! The 406 has been getting me around, but never quite right. The first shop did a hand job on the rear main seal register. I had to strip it down to the bare block and found a guy to make it round and concentric.

Bores are loose and I doinked the pushrod length (guides are now shot). Dealing with blow by, down on cylinder psi, long sad story.

Junior happened to have a virgin 400, which I dropped off at the "new" shop for inspection. Today (three months later) I just ordered a Skip White Performance 421 rotating assembly.

As for the '67, it just like you all last saw it, tucked away in storage. I've squirreled away some dough and have been looking for a pad with a nice shop. Stuff is crazy expensive around here and new stuff sells in a week for asking price, some to the highest bidder.

I'll be back with an awesome update on the C10!

Oh, Knuckles been working the Fo** diesel deal for a while. Started his own gig with a pal, doing pretty good! He's got a low miles '77 K20 with a home-built 454 roller. Sounds *****in!

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

Yes housing is ridiculously priced over here as well. We're hoping things come back to reality sometime soon, but not holding our breath.

Sorry to hear about your issues with the 406. Hopefully the 421 turns out better. I wouldn't know quite where to go for machine work these days. The guy I used to use retired a few years ago.

Great to hear from you, John. Figured you must have gotten sidetracked; that whole "life interfering with plans" thingy. The good news is - it sounds like you're still moving forward.

CRLS sold to an international buyer somewhere (consignor wouldn't say) so I'm truckless again and living vicariously thru others. Looking forward to any progress reports regardless how far apart they're spaced. Take care!

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

Thanks, guys!
I'll report on the engine build. If I can get this one done, I'm going to bring in the 327 and get rolling on that.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

Based on the picture in Post #1061 and the picture in Post #1136, I'd say he has a place to work (like a new shop he mentioned a few years ago) and maybe has the engine installed.

But that all could be wishful thinking...

Here she is, boys! Unfortunately, it came with a dirty old house that I'm trying to spiff up. Shouldn't be too long and I'll get to putting that shop together! I'll be dropping that 327 off here soon too.

Thanks, John! Hydraulic clutch is on the top of the completion list.

The pictures don't do it justice. I am one lucky MF! Can't wait to start pushing this truck over the finish line, then blow apart the big fella (The Crummy!)

With that shop just demo the dirty old house, stand up a few walls in the shop and move in! Lots of people do that here in Texas...we call it a barndominium. Another bonus is you will save $$$ on your property taxes, which means more dinero for the fun things in life. Of course if you are a married man, this will be a tough sale and maybe not even possible.

Congratulations on a new fantastic work space.

Great to hear from all you guys! I'm hauling ass on the house, i'm not in this alone.... Rewind three years.

Gonna be all house through the holidays, but I'm gonna try like hell to get organized and get that lift installed. The shop floor is heated but I got one of them infared thermometers and it appears I can "see" the water lines. Wish me luck!

Truck updates soon!!
