Re: 1972 Chevy C10 "OrngsikL"

been busy with work and other stuff.
got her a new home...

and did some work. made a bed puller out of some 2x4s and used an engine lift and got the bed off.
Pulled the rear end out and put it under the other frame.

should get more done soon!

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 "OrngsikL"

boxing in the frame for bag mounts

start of the crossmember

mocking up the bars

getting the bars square

mocking up upper bar placement

How do my uppers look? will these angles work?

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 "OrngsikL"

Did you consider locating the uppers on the outside of the frame?
Also I thought with a 4-link you couldnt have a static mount I was under the impression that you had to have a pivoting assembly to keep the distances between the arms equal so there is no binding, but what do I know I've never tried to engineer a 4-link before so I don't really know what I'm talking about, it's all a theory to me.

if I ran the uppers on the outside it wouldn't be triangulated. but i may have to go parallel and run a watts like or panhard.

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 "OrngsikL"

How did you make this work with the park/neutral switch? I want to do this but from what I can see I only will be able to move it about 3/4" before the switch hits the firewall.

switch is just hanging under the dash right now. i think there is a way to notch out the steering column and run it outside the firewall.

Wow you have a great build thread going. Funny **** I was there for the hurricane. Issac. I'm a lineman. We worked in Baton Rouge. Man youve got some huge trees down there. Super friendly state. I'll be watching you bud.

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 "OrngsikL"

haha, cool. Thanks for coming down and giving us a hand with the power. Don's is a pretty good place to eat, there's alot better places though lol.

Made some more progress on the rear end. Got it all cleaned up and primered and then painted in rustoleum flat black and installed a new chrome cover. Filled it with oil and it's been sitting for a week, no leaks so far.

If I could concentrate on one project at a time, i'd be okay haha. Been playing around with the daily too. Picked up some tahoe 20s, installed foglights 2 days ago and got 3.90s, cam, springs, pushrods and transmission cooler waiting to be installed.

Need any help with anything let me know man. I'm always willing to help out (and learn). Provided the hunni-do list is caught up, I'm not at work, or working on my own truck..... LOL

Ok cool. I'd like to check your truck out too. I usually work on mine during the week when I'm done with my hunny-do list too, cause I'm on shift work and usually don't touch the truck on my weekends off. Got some more done yesterday. Ill post pics up tonight. My laptop motherboard decided to die the day before I left for lonestar roundup. Pm me ya number and maybe we can meet up one day. You don't happen to live off hwy 447 do you?

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 "OrngsikL"

Finally took out the trailing arm crossmember and cut the bottom frame humps out with a grinder, i wish i had access to a torch to heat em up and re-bend them, but i don't. So i cut the humps out and plated them back. So now the frame lays flat.

Got all my bag mounts in place. Got them all welded up and then decided to flip the frame over and weld up the bottom side of everything. Primered all the weld so it wont rust anymore.
Guess the next thing is to find a bag to run on the back that will fit without rubbing my upper link bars. The re-7s balloon out too much, so i may run a re-6 on the rear. Any suggestions?
