Re: Installed 700R4 - Hook Up Lockup or not?
The 700R4 is a Joke for none computer.I've been told bite the bullet and install the stand alone computer. Its cheaper in the long run and if you have problem Put the small light on the dash to tell you when you need to do some code reader.
The old way about having a 700R4 built and just drop it in your truck and its done.Your WRONG I've talked to 8 transmission shops that say Hell ya i rather build you a 1987-90 700R4 and let you do all the shifting patterns that they have to sit and baby sit for 4 hours. Any one tells you that you can take a None computer 700R4 from the bench to your car or truck with out doing the shifting patterns is full of Crap |

I didn't know the 700 was a computer controlled unit just the 4L60 that came out in 1994. Learn something new everyday.
Pretty good write-up here on converter lock-up. http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/lockup.htm Here's a pretty good article on the 700. http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sum.../techinfo.html

Re: Installed 700R4 - Hook Up Lockup or not?
I guess i'll drive mine in "D" so I don't block the lubrication going to the planetary gear since my solenoid doesn't work for lock up in 4th.

Re: Installed 700R4 - Hook Up Lockup or not?
Definitely go with a lock up kit. The one I will be installing is from Bowler Transmissions. The thing I like about the Bowler kit is that lock up occurs 8 seconds after it shifts into OD. This gives you time to get up to freeway speed and then lock up occurs. It also comes with a brake light switch, so if you tap the brake, lock up disengages and you have another 8 seconds before lock up. I believe the cost is $179 for the kit.
