After two long years of looking for a decent shortbed I finally found one....not. I came across this 70 big block extra long bed for $800 on Craigs List and decided to go take a look. After seeing how rust free the cab might be I still didn't want a 3/4 ton 8 1/2 ft bed.....however the guy said take it for $500 and I couldn't say no.

It apparently had dealer installed LPG and a hole cut in the bed (for access?). Don't know what I will do with it but there is no rust and I mean the rockers are great, the kick panels are solid and even the doors are good. The passenger cab corner had a nickel size hole from being damaged but other than that it is real solid. It even runs...although the gas tank doesn't fit the truck and apparently never had one....says the previous owner.

Anyone on here every build a 3/4 ton shortbed 2wd?....hmmm.

Sweet!!!!! Now you can find a SWB truck in any shape or even just a good frame and you you already have good sheet metal and a BB to build your short bed. You might look in Lubbock for a short frame, I hear they have some good stuff down there.

Guess I am going to get a behind the seat tank and sending unit. Any good suppliers here on the board for the sending unit?

need to recover seat also...been beat up pretty bad. Got it running today and will need to work on the carb also.

Well 70chevytruck ...looks like a solid truck to me plus it's 1970 model year. You have excellent taste.

California Truck the guy drove down to Texas with a giant camper on the back....I was this close to having to take the camper....whew...

You can definitely tell the west coast trucks from the ones around here.

I wonder if the dealer installed LPG adds value to the point that you would keep it. Got a picture of the SPID?

Nice buy! I wouldn't worry about the condition of native Austin trucks too much. I have bought some really cherry stuff out of there for cheap. I know I would have gotten this truck if I had been cruising Craigs lately.

I always thought the 3/4T ex long beds looked good with a tool box... seems to fix the proportions! (and handy too)

No propane anymore...has a rigged up tank behind the seat for fuel with an electric fuel pump....pretty dangerous looking.
