my question i have is which bumperets did they use on a 70 gmc use are they tall or the short ones?

I think 67-70 were short.

Too Much is right. instructions that came with them had them placed wide, outside the frame rails requiring new holes. These weren't factory, they were GM accessories and people put them where they wanted and since the next year the tall style came out, many owners bought those. Figure a '70 was only a year old and many would put them on after that first year and might have wanted the newer look. I like the older ones on the newer trucks, personally.

Yeah, low profile and all chrome. The line is drawn between old style and modern style between the two. The 67-70s are linked to the guards used on cars since way back. The 71/72s (and up) with rubber are what came next and years beyond
