Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered

Would you just sew up the cover and ship it? I live in Calgary Alberta. I have an 87 GMC with a black deluxe velour seat.

No sorry I can’t, because I have a guy that makes my covers for my seats I restore. We can barely keep up with the seat orders. If I just sold covers, I would never have any for my seat restorations. Especially the Blacks & Charcoals, those sell like crazy.

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered

Just finished up this 78-80 CarmineRed seat. It will be picked up from Georgia. I didn’t fully assemble it, since it’s going on the shelf until it gets picked up. But it looks almost identical to this seat ( pic #4 ). The only difference in the seats, one of the seats is the 1st Design (cloth to the end of the seat). The other is the 2nd Design (Vinyl on the ends of the seat).
I also restored a set of seatbelts for him.

Working on a 73-76 GMC Benchseat, Blue. Here’s some before and after. I only have the seat bottom cover on so far.

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered

Here’s the finished seat. My my, this is a beautiful seat! This is the 75-76 Blue. Added the original Medallions back on the seat. And I did his seatbelts for him also.
Just got it done this morning, and it’s getting picked up this evening. He’s driving 3hrs one way, from Indiana.

I just got a 81-83 CarmineRed Velour cover, so I will be doing a seat shortly. So stay tuned! Already have the hinge covers & seatbelt bezels restored and ready. Bottom right, they are marked 81-83.

Great work on these. I will be making do with Walmart seat covers for quite some time into the future, haha. But I enjoy window shopping.

You must be talking about those itchy wool Seat Saddle Blankets.

Are they wool? That's good to know. I figured they were made out of whatever was in the leftover yarn bin, with the color stripes added for good measure. I never get too snuggly with them so I don't think the itchy part ever registered, haha.

Well the old ones were, back in the day. Not sure about these new ones. All I know is that they shed a lot. I hate when I get a core seat to strip down, and one of those are on there. I’m sneezing for the next several hours.

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered

Got a core seat this weekend. Stripped it down, but the only useable parts are going to be the tracks & seat back. And those need repairs. The seat back bar has broken away from the hinge. This is a common issue that I always get repaired.
The bottom frame was too badly rusted, and had a crack damn near all the way thru the frame. The grid and foam were all trashed too.
You’ll never believe all the problems that these seats have hiding under the cover. This is exactly the reason why I restore and repair EVERYTHING on the seat. Not just throw a pretty cover on what’s there, which is what a lot of upholstery shops do.
