Well a new member kawman10 was having some problems and I found out that he actually lives very close to me.

So we got together and fixed his problems, he thought that his valves were loose and making noise but, I diagnosed it to be a bad fuel pump making the racket.

We replaced that and set the valves just to be on the safe side and, he PM me and let me know that he took care of a few odds and ends vacume leaks.

He is getting it inspected now for some fun summer crusin'

I figured I would share some pic's of his truck since I am so jealous of his ride. I'm sure all of you guy's will enjoy the pic's as well.

Very nice guy and hope to be freinds for a long time to come.

Can't wait till the Board Wide Meet to meet many more of you guys, it's just around the corner

Let me know if that one is alright.

BTW don't forget to change that fuel filter insert in short order, Mike to take care of any metal that may be there from cutting the steel line.

Only enough rubber fuel hose to make the connections.

Dang, that is SWEET! I've chased noisy rockers to find out it was the fuel pump also.

Well Shane I would tend to agree in certain cases but we actually put it on there. Thank You for pointing it out.

It has no way of moving at all the way it is set-up.

Steel line to it and out only enough rubber to make the connection.

It has NO WAY of coming into contact with anything and other than that I like them.

It's not the moving that scares me, it's the constant state of heating it up and then cooling it down.

These sort of heat cycles can make glass become brittle.

Did mean to sound bossy, just wouldn't want anything to happen to such a sweet truck.

Ive been tempted to turn out some aluminum tubes to replace the glass ones but havetn gotten around to it yet...

I 2nd shanes comment - ditch that sucker before its too late, those filters are nothing but bad news. There is enough under hood vibration there to cause them end caps to loosen up over time and to then start leaking fuel, I myself have seen two engine compartment infernos and have also heard of several others all due to that type of fuel filter. Otherwise, that is one sharp looking truck, C.B.

I'm sure Mike, aka kawman10 will appritiate you comments on his truck. It is VERY VERY SWEET.

And also, Shane and Classic Bowties I am very appritiative that you expressed your opinions on the fuel filter issues. I certainly would never want to see anything happen to someones truck.

specialy one as nice as Mike's. any one's for that matter.

I have used these filters in the past without issue but, I do see your points and they are valid to say the least. I PM'ed Mike about this thread and to read your concerns. I'm sure it will be addressed in short order.

While we are pick'n on the fuel filter, I'd like to throw in that I have horrible luck with rubber fuel line, have had for years, and so have most people I know. Seems that in 1-2 years, it cracks up so bad fuel starts seeping thru. I've tried Gates, Dayco, Goodyear & found no difference in the quality. The only thing I have found that holds up is high pressure fuel injection hose. Not that a carb needs the high psi rating, but because it seems to hold up really well. At first I thought the hose failures might have something to do with underhood heat, but ruled that out when I found the same thing happening right off the tank sender.

Everytime someone shows a pic of one of those someone wants it tossed. I have had one for more than 25 years...that's 9 thousand, one hundred and 25 days...without one problem...ever! As long as it is secured properly I don't see what the big deal is???

The only ones that really bother me are the ones that arent installed tight in the line & could get broken easily. They used glass carb bowls for years on old tractors without any problems, so I know what you are saying. On the rubber hose deal, the only ones that gave me problems were 15-20 years old. People just dont want to see these old trucks get torched, thats all...

As for me on the rubber fuel line subject I will say that I have got some pretty crappy stuff lately

I actually bought a section just to have on hand at the shop and it was the worst I have ever seen.

When you tightened a clap on it it would go right threw the stuff. It just seemed real soft. And I have tightened alot of clamps over the years. If I recall it was Gates too and, I have seen Gates hose that was GR8 also so go figure.

I with you guys, all that has been stated is very valid(good & bad), Like I stated before I have used them with no problems but, I'm gonna leave this one to Mike.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for all the concerns you have to the glass fuel filter. The truck is driven less than 1,000 miles a year, so I would doubt that filter would be in bad shape, though I will keep it in mind and might replace it or remove it completely.

Welcome from another Pennsylvanian.! Nice truck! A buddy from Trout Run had a glass filter on his 1969 Olds 442 455 4speed....it caught on fire cause of the glass filter. He saved the car, but had to replace the hood, wiring, hozes, and inner fenders.
I wouldn't take the chance. I use the clear plastic filters now.
