does anyone have pictures of a roll on paint job like a year or 2 or even more after? id like to see how it holds up, i found one guys 6 month and 1 year after online while researching but id like to see more.
as i said earlier, im thinking about rolling my truck, but if its gonna peel or look crappy in a year ill wait a year for the money and get it sprayed. Also i have read that if you roll it its much harder to get a professional paint job after because they have to sand it to nearly bare metal if this is done

As I mentioned before I had actually rattle canned the truck with rustoluem 8 + years ago. I didn't do a very good job just a couple of quick coats to get looking one color. It was splotchy and you could tell I painted it myself. However even that held up for a good 5 - 6 years. I decided to try rolling the paint after reading about it because when I sprayed the truck I did spend some extra time on the front left corner of the hood. That corner 8 years later only really needed to be buffed out but since I am changing colors I am repainting the whole thing.

So I got the Camaro IROC rear sway bar installed yesterday, Whoa! does it pull hard. I replaced a straight 1" aftermarket bar with it and it is much, much stiffer. Gona have to get a bigger front bar ASAP. I can't think of a better setup for these trucks. Here's some cell phone pics. It fits nice tight up in there.

Here's a quick update on painting.

I finally got around to getting rid of all the "orange peel" on the front clip and put my first coat of Rustoleum "Regal Red" on. In photo's it has a very orange tint to it when viewed from an angle. That said, I like the color a lot more than the "Carvial Red" I started out with (too pinkish once polished).

Went to Pick-&-Pull today and got a 1.25 inch sway bar off of mid-80's 1 ton chevy. I need to strip it, paint and the frame around the mounts and then install. Can't wait to see how the truck handles after I put it on.

One thing I've noticed is that the factory bars are a lot lite'r than aftermarket bars. The IROC rear bar I installed must of wieghed 1/2 what hellwieg I pulled off did. Even the 1.25 inch front bar weighed less a lot less than the rear 1" hellwieg...

I'll post pictures as I go

Alright, here are some photos of the new front sway bar next to the old to show how much bigger it is. The truck goes around corners now like its on rails

Interesting enough, and I don't know why, it doesn't bounce around and get all squirely now when I hit uneven pavement.

The paint job looks like it's coming along nicely. Car Craft did a write up a year or so ago on the roll on paint method. They used a white, but the results were pretty nice. I've done the rattle can jobs for years myself and have always had good luck, the '79 Camaro in my build thread was all done with Rustoleum Satin spray paint in my little shop. I also like the use of the IROC rear sway bar, gonna have to remember that one next time I go to pick 'n pull.

Two question for you, how do the two different sway bars work together? Do you feel like they may be out of balance or do they work well as a whole?

The front bar off the 1-ton and the rear bar off the IROC are a perfectly matched for each other. What I realize now is that the stock front bar isn't big enough to support a rear bar. I could always feel the frame twist a little in turns because the rear was tighter than the front. It is a completely different truck now, it will go around corners easily at speeds I would've never tried before.

I let a buddy of mine drive it last night on fun country back road with lots of turns. Him and I used to race each other all over the place in High School and he's one of the few people I feel comfortable riding with at high speed. He was blown away, commented that it was well balanced and that other than the brakes (still need some work there) it felt a lot like his Acura TL.

It's been a while since I've posted anything, not that I've been doing nothing just haven't had anything to show for it. So here it goes....

I've spent the last few weeks grabbing what time I could to prep the cab to paint it. Took a lot longer than I thought the old paint hid a lot of little dents all over the place. Finally got most of it filled and got the first 3 coats rolled on the cab.

I plan on putting 2 more coats on the cab, doors and roof and then wet sand it along with the front clip. That will catch the cab up with the front fenders, they currently have 5 coats of the "Regal Red" over 7 coats of "Carvial Red" (didn't like it after it turned out pinkish when I buffed it out).

Still need to finish my new hood, install it and start painting it. Then getting going on the outside of the bed. Interior is pretty much done.

I'll post more photos as I work my way through the process.

Time for an update:

Just finished rolling the 5th coat on to the extiorer of the bed. That now brings everything but the hood (still need to replace) up to the same number of coats of paint. I can now basiclly roll the entire truck from here out.

Finally got around to swapping on my "other" hood. Once I am done fixing all the little dents in it, it will have a LOT less bondo than the old hood. I only had one problem putting it on. One of the nuts that bolt the hood to the hinge came un done and now I can't tighten up the one bolt. I need to figure out how to get in to it with out "f" up my hood so I get a good grip on it and finish tightening it up right. Any ideas let me know.

I managed to take care of the busted nut. Now I am dealing with electrical issues involving the brake/tail/turn signals and lights. What I nightmare

Almost done with prepping the hood, hope to apply the first couple of coats this week. I've got the rear lights working and I FINALLY got my power steering working like it should. Man is air in the fluid a pain. I am also hard at work trying to dig up some rear backing plates from a late 70's caddy so I can complete my rear disc swap.
