Is anyone using an Eaton True- Trac

Is anyone using an Eaton Tru -Trac in their 12 bolt 1/2 ton. Just wondering about noise issues with them.

I am interested also. I have them front and rear in my wrangler and I love them. Silent. You don’t even know they are there until you need them. I like that they also don’t take any special treatment once installed and I hear they handle a decent amount of power too

I have 2 guys I know using them and they do work good. How long they last is unknown in the real world. Dodge applications...

About 1000 bucks an axle.

Re: Is anyone using an Eaton True- Trac

My son had the rear buried deep in sand (both tires dug in equally) in 2 Hi. Locked it in 4wd and it crawled right out.

Re: Is anyone using an Eaton True- Trac

Thanks for the quick responses. The reason I asked the question is because I already bought one and will be getting it installed along with the other pictured goodies into my 72 C10.. A good friend has had one for a year now in a 1998 GMC Z71 Pickup and its been working great and quiet. The reason I posted the question is because after spending 90% as much for the Tru-Trac as I did for all the other pictured goodies I Googled Eaton Tru-Trac and found some people on different sites saying they clunked and were noisy. I'm thinking if they weren't installed properly they might do that. A local shop I have been using for 30 years is installing mine.

Definitely both an art and a science to gear/diff work. A good shop and you’ll have no issue. Mines going in very soon.

Re: Is anyone using an Eaton True- Trac

TruTrac is the longest running tried and true limited slip device out there. Doesn't cost any more than any other device worth buying. They are made by one of the greatest known axle/differential companies out there. They built the rear you want to put it in.

I have only run them in the front of 4wds... with 37" tires. Never ever an issue. That shows how well it works for turning both when needed and putting bias between when need (very important up front).

Re: Is anyone using an Eaton True- Trac

I’ve got one in my dana60. At first it made a heap of noise around corners.
I did some research and found out they don’t like synthetic oils. Turns out the installer had used a synthetic oil. I swapped to a mineral oil and now it’s silent.

Thanks for that tip I'll pass it along to the installer. You'd think Eaton would put some written instructions or tips like "'use synthetic oil " in the box with the True Trac but nothing there except the unit in the ( pictured ) box.

Re: Is anyone using an Eaton True- Trac

Yeah, I had massive case of buyers remorse.
The mineral oil was a last ditch effort after the diff rebuilder told me it’s just the noise they make.

Just to be clear. Don’t use synthetic oil

Re: Is anyone using an Eaton True- Trac

I have the Eaton ETN-19554-010, ordered from Summit, well over 8 years ago, 3.42 gears, and Superior axles in my 68 C10, running 650+ Hp/Tq in front of it, 29" tires, 4L85e trans.

the only problem I have with my setup is, it wont "sit and spin" like it did with the factory posi and 3.73 gears.

hooks up and goes very well. I have driven both highway speeds and low speed cruises, parades, power tours, carshows, etc. with no issues, noises or weird sounds from the diff.

read the instructions, there was a tag on a zip tie hanging on the diff when removed from the box saying specifically not to use synthetic oil, a huge highlighted warning in the instructions warning also.

I had mine installed by a shop that does approximately 100 gear installs a month, usually on 3500 and larger stuff.

Truckmotive in Waco Tx. very good guys, great service and quick two. They also built my driveshaft as well.

Re: Is anyone using an Eaton True- Trac

I don't see how a TrueTrac can make noise. The side gears are always in mesh with the worm gears and there are no clutches to slip and grab. If anything, this looks like a perfect place for synthetic lube.

The only downside is in certain off-road conditions the differential can act the same as an open differential.

Re: Is anyone using an Eaton True- Trac

I thank my unbroken axle shafts/yokes to the differential qualities of the Tru-Trac. But now that people go to the extreme, inviting carnage with rock crawling, that's another matter. A whole different ball game. Those rigs are certainly not on/off road vehicles. They are trailer queens on the hiway.

A.C, that's a mighty fine custom & performance ride!
