I'm assembling my motor and I have two of these clips on hand.

There are two other similar clips that I have that are for the front spark plug wires. They have some thick black insulation on them.

I think these two clips were on oil pan cover bolts too. The only other thing I can think of that might run down there was the positive battery cable that runs to the starter on the right side of the motor. The wierd thing is the mounting holes for these mystery clips are larger like they should go on one of the larger corner bolts of the oil pan cover.

Does anyone recognize this clip?

they look like the vacume ine holder for a q-jet carb they bolt to the valve covers i belive. verry well cold be wrong though. -kyle

can't see the pick real well but I think they look like the clips that attach to the oil pan and hold the transmission lines that go to the radiator

I belive there is clips that go along the oil pan that also hold the postive battery cable.

It's a 4 speed so there are no transmission lines.

Anyone else with an original sb that can verify where these go?

Do you have a shop manual or factory assembly manual, try looking in there to see if you can spot it.

Tom,

My 1974 350 had brackets just like that on the old pan bolts on the passenger side. If my memory serves, they were holding the starter wires.

Im 100% sure it's for the + battery cable, kinda important, keeps the wire away from frame and hot exhaust, it's always cool when the wire welds itself, or melts a hole through the exhaust.

My vote is for the battery cable to the starter too. Comes in handy when your starter bolts fall out and the cable is the only thing keeping the starter from taking out the family in the car behind you.

The bracket/clip shown in your picture is, in fact, located on the oil pan...there are two clips on each side of the oil pan secured by the smaller oil pan attaching bolts....the one pictured is a FRONT (and non insulated) clip and attaches to the second from the front smaller oil pan bolt..the REAR clip(s) are larger (and insulated) and are attached to the second from the rear small oil pan bolt on each side....these clips are used to assist in routing the spark plug wires below the rams horn exhaust manifolds and rearward...interesting to note is that the routing of cylinders 1 & 3 (and 2 & 4) spark plug wires with the correct 90 degree spark plug boots is between the front motor mounts and the block...hope this helps...

So that's what those are for!

I had some left over from my rebuild and didn't know where they went. So, I used them to hold up and extension cord in my garage. I guess I can see them working on my engine also.
