Re: Proportioning valve ??

Please don't mix brake parts. You need those important safety parts to work correctly. Each brake component is designed and manufactured for a specific purpose and should not be mixed up. Easier to find the right part than to recover from an accident.

Re: Proportioning valve ??

Drum brakes and disc brake require different pressure characteristics and the purpose of the proportioning valve is to keep the pressure in the proper "proportion" in the two separate sides of the system controlled by one master cyl.

Re: Proportioning valve ??

Drum brake trucks have a distribution block.
It's not a proportioning valve.
Meaning,... it doesn't regulate the front vs rear brake pressures,... it just sends fluid to the 4 wheels.
Use the correct parts on your drum brake truck.

Re: Proportioning valve ??

What about using differentials from a truck that came with anti-lock brakes? Will the discs work fine with a stock 71 setup?

as stated use the correct part. Prop valves send 70% to the front and of course 30% to the back. Disc brakes need more pressure up front than the rears. So all you are doing is sending that to the front on drums which is not needed. the part is not expensive so use the correct one
