Re: My Build - FINALLY...

Norm, hows that 4.11 working out for you? Did you get the miss fixed yet? Finally hows the move up the hill. I worked on Joes pickup yesterday putting that lock right in it. By the time I was ready to install the little springs my hands were so cold I could barely hang on to the springs. I had to bring the rear axle housing cover in the house for the paint to dry it was so cold. I have to finish it tomorrow if I don't have jury duty.
Keep in touch it is about the same time up the hill from my place as it was to Alhambra, so if you need help and I am available we will work it out.

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

*bump*

Hey Sup folks! Been a l o n g time since I've been here and sorry to say that nothing has been done.

No web access here in the High Desert until now. Also no time, or friggin job layoffs. Well the later has passed and I got to keep the job. So maybe now I can get something done!

Havin a motor built right now, pickup in a week or 2. Hunting for the front end parts also. So we'll see

Hope y'all are well!!

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

Hey Norm, good to hear you got to keep a job.
The front end parts are at Pic a Part. Get a hold of Dennis, there is a new one in Hesperia.
All you will need are the spindles, rotors, calipers, brake lines and maybe the tie rod ends from the spindle side.
Once you get the engine you need that 700R4!
I picked up a 700R4 and a NP241 t-case, plus a complete NP 203 for helping a guy install a 400 turbo 203/205 doubler in his Blazer.
The trans needs rebuilding and once I do it I am going to use it to convert my 73 Suburban to 4wd.
Have fun at the truck show! I'll have to miss it due to work. We just went on a new schedule 48,96 so I work 2 days straight and 4 off!

I am going to do the transmission. I'll download some info or by a CD. There are lots of places to find upgrades. I've been looking at learning how to do this for a while now.

Good deal Norm,

You looking at front disc brakes and power steering next? Still lots of stuff at PaP.
I'm thinking about retirement. June would be likely. May need to come up and spend a day and drag you over to see Dennis.

Hey Cuz, Hope all is well!

How certain r u on this for the C20 brake conversion? I've see quite a bit of info (mostly 1/2 ton conversion info) here but because of ball joints variations it has me wondering...

I don't have another rig at the moment to transport a complete front end. So maybe I will just finish the motor install n partial frame clean up. Get back on the road, find a front end, restore it & then tear down front end for the swap...

We'll see...

Thanks!

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

@ Thump16 - Yep it stays a long bed. I still plan to use it as a "truck". Thinkin of raising the bed floor though. On long hauls I take my scoot with me so I really can't have short bed not any interference in the bed floor.

@ Jayson & Dino - Thanks guys!

2nd coat of the POR-15 base color just applied to the motor. Now let it dry. Too late to top coat so I'll have to wait till next weekend to do it. Now to go grab a much deserved Pizza Pie n a Pitcher of BEER!

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

Progress is lookin good

You should be able to just change the balljoints to the '71-'87 C20 pieces and then bolt on the C20 spindles, rotors and such including the steering linkage. Of course you'll have to upgrade the brake master cylinder as well.

Will be on the parts hunt this week.

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

Yes, any of the square body 3/4 ton stuff should work. I wish I was far enough along to do mine, then we would know for sure.

Every body wants to go from 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton and I am going the other way. I want a TRUCK and that means 8 lug nuts!

Susies sister is going through chemo for breast cancer right now so we are making lots of trips to San Diego, my stuff is kinda on hold.

Oh and Norm, now that you are up in the desert, you need to think about a clutch fan for the truck and get rid of the flex fan. You could probably snag one off of any later model truck at PaP.

Gonna hunt this weekend for the front end stuff. I have a fan and clutch - both new but never installed. Am gonna run an electric fan (puller) instead. Wish it was the weekend so I can get back on this thing.

In the mean time I snapped a shock bolt off in the frame of my bike (softail). Tight spot to work in! May have to get a mobile EDM service to come out!

Hope goes well for your sister in-law!

Re: My Build - FINALLY...

First couple of sessions went well, last couple have kinda tired her out some.

Since you already have a 3/4 ton the lower arms and ball joints should be OK. Might have to change the uppers though.

After I retire I am going great guns on my projects until my leave time buyout money is used up.

I am gonna start with the easy stuff first and move on from there. The pickup is number 3 on the list.

Not gettin anything done this weekend! Friggen back spasms!

Maybe I'll go to Brothers n see side by side u&l ball joint comparisons after I pull the parts from the yard - next weekend I hope! Will bring digital calipers with me n see whats what.
