Looking good, should pull that balancer off again and tape it off and paint the timing mark white first then red. Did it on mine can see the mark perfect every time, just a thought.

Re: Project Tweaked - 2wd Blazer build

Thanks guys! I'm excited about getting it back together!

Style question. Being that I'm going back with all of the factory trim and chrome, should I spring for the windshield seal with the chrome center or just go with the solid black seal?

Opinions???? Input?

Thanks,
Mike

Solid black.
The chrome will start to look like crap in a couple years.

I think the solid black trim looks the best. Simple and clean.

Re: Project Tweaked - 2wd Blazer build

Black it is.

I pulled all of the front suspension out from under the truck this evening. I'll get the new bushings and ball joints in it tomorrow and hopefully back together tomorrow night with the new spindles and springs.

More progress. Front and rear suspension done, and new shoes mounted. Heading back out now to set motor and trans in.

Hope to have it running in a couple of days.

It looked good with the new paint, but the wheels set it off. Nice build up.

Re: Project Tweaked - 2wd Blazer build

Thanks for the compliments. I did get back out there last night. The engine and transmission are now bolted in the truck.

Mounting the Boss 338's was fairly easy. I used DJM lowering spindles for the light duty brake system (1 inch rotors). I bought new rotors (hubs) and calipers for the light duty brakes. I mocked up the new hubs to the wheels with the dust caps installed. The only issue was that it was pushing the center cap out of the wheel about 1/8-3/16 of an inch. After considering grinding on the hubs I started looking at the center caps. The fingers that hold the center caps in are about 3/16-1/4 inch longer than they have to be to still function as they should. 2 minutes with a flapper wheel on an angle grinder was all it took to make the center caps work perfectly. No other issues.

Re: Project Tweaked - 2wd Blazer build

Ok, here's the video of the initial start up. I filled the front fuel bowl with a syringe and gave it a couple of primer squirts before starting the video. I must have gotten pretty lucky dropping the distributor. After stopping the video I found a small fuel leak at the carburetor. Other than that everything looks good to go! After correcting the fuel leak I started it back up, set the timing, checked and topped off the fluid in the new 700r4, and let her get up to operating temperature. Not too far off from a "spin" around the block!

Re: Project Tweaked - 2wd Blazer build

No, I built it. The short block started life as a marine ram jet engine. It is a factory roller block so I went with the GM LT4 hot cam to give it a little thump. I can't wait to see how it drives. Sounds strong and has very good throttle response.

Re: Project Tweaked - 2wd Blazer build

Thanks!

Here are some pictures from today. The front end still needs to come down a little. I'm hoping the hood, windshield, and bumper will be enough weight to bring it down a little. If not enough then I will cut the new springs before I get an alignment.

Oh, and yes it will turn a tire over.....just in case you were wondering!
