1971 c10 16 year old girl
Dang straight.
Two years a go my dad got a 1971 c10 longbed, painted an ugly dark green with a red fender, but it ran great! til some idiot drove in front of an old lady who had to stop quickly which caused my dad to run into her The radiator was toast, core support bent, and the grill and hood crunched. It sat for two years looking miserable and sad on our driveway. Until one day i devised a plan, find my dad the truck he really wants (a 69) and then beg to be able to fix up the 71. After replacing the radiator, battery, and a few wires it was running! next step is to figure out the blinkers and get the carb working right. the first 3 pics are of the truck now, other too are from after it was wrecked and after i started work on it |

This is what the forum is for, helping others and sharing experiences. Nice work on the truck and any problems or questions you might have just ask! Btw, I'm partial to 71's myself. I have one and my dad had one when I was born. My mom drove it 9 months pregnant with a 3 on the tree!

Girls who like classic chevys are a rare thing its tough wanting to talk about my truck to friends, they pretend to care but you can tell theyre not interested at all and quickly change the subject. Theyll be interested when mines all done up nice (:

Re: 1971 c10 16 year old girl
Thought Id post and update. not sure if there's a more official way but whatever. the truck starts up nice and sounds GREAT. Then the carb starts gushing gas its a 4 barrel Rochester thats been rebuilt twice! we are taking it to a local guy whos been rebuilding for 40+ years, we told him about our problem and he thinks its an easy fix and that if someone doesn't know EXACTLY what they're doing, the carb doesn't often work right. But he seems to know and it might get done for free we had a chevy enthusiast recommend him to us and said that his truck ran better than ever when he got the carb back. Will post pics of the carb later, and maybe a couple of the truck on the road

Re: 1971 c10 16 year old girl
on those signals, make sure you got the ground wire secured to the rad support. with no paint in between the contact eyelet on the wire and the rad support

Re: 1971 c10 16 year old girl
FWIW, after I replaced my grill and painted/powdercoated brackets and whatnot, I lost the ground on my turn signals. I ran a new wire from the metal backing of the light housings to the rad support and grounded them that way. It wasn't worth it to me to chase down why I didn't have a good ground, easier to just make a new one, unless you are striving for factory correct.
Any time a light doesn't work right on my truck, I first check the bulb itself, then the bulb connection in the socket, then the ground.

here's a wiring schematic showing the under hood wiring and the front lamp harness... the black circles show the grounds....

Re: 1971 c10 16 year old girl
Unless your striving for a show truck, I second the advice of just making a new ground... The others are probably correct in that the accident disturbed the ground at your radiator support. So unless you want to "inch" your way through the harness... A new one spliced in will probably get you blinking...

Re: 1971 c10 16 year old girl
Thanks all for the advice about the turn signals! I am going to take a closer look today, after i get the fresh professionally rebuilt carburetor back in so long to the rest of my truck money.... hopefully today ill get some driving pictures to post to the thread. Next after turn signals (and some more money) is some new tires, some gauge work, then it should be good to drive for good. After that its radio, new/old steering wheel (the current one is off a late 70s-80s pickup), and then some carpet. It will be decent looking eventually! Thanks much!

Re: 1971 c10 16 year old girl
Finally got the carburetor back and into the truck, it started and ran after a little adjusting and i got to drive it down the street! sounds pretty awesome too. Runs good, but wont idle down on its own. its getting there! next i've got to look at the blinkers and figure out why they're not working. Is the turn signal relay on the top of the steering column behind the gauges? After blinkers work ill be taking it down to pass emissions and then it'll be new tires as soon as i have about $250 id like to get some white rims or whitewall tires, maybe ill sell the rims that are currently on it. My dad says theyre nice pictures to come later.

Re: 1971 c10 16 year old girl
The relay is on the fuse box on the firewall by the ebrake, there is a relay for the hazards, and a relay for the turn signals, so you may need to replace both of them, just depending on what is working, and what is not.
