72 LWB Driveshaft advice needed

I'm working on getting my '72 LWB (stock 307 and three-on-the-tree) on the road and want to get your input-

Should I try to find a newer 2 piece shaft at the local pull-a-part or rebuild my stock unit? If it means finding a newer unit, what fits?

Thanks, Bill

Rebuild. The one at pick-n-pull is of unknown condition but we know it's as old as yours.

Re: 72 LWB Driveshaft advice needed

Thank you for the response special-K!

And I apologize if I wasn't being clear in the question-

Is there a newer model 2 piece drive shaft that will swap out/bolt in (e.g. 88-98, etc) and be a smart upgrade, or should I just stay with what I have? Happy to keep the stock unit and rebuild, but don't want to spend money 2x if the upgrade is a better choice.

Thumbs up Re: 72 LWB Driveshaft advice needed

I swapped out the Saginaw 3 speed in my LWB 67 GMC C20 for an SM465 over 30 years ago. I had a longer front of the 2 pc. made to fit the shorter trans. I failed to mark and keep the shaft and yoke I took out. I've still got the 3 speed and a 4 speed I'd like to use but I don't want to cut the shaft I had made. It would be great to hear there's another option for me besides building a new one or digging for an old stock but since you've got it I vote rebuild it. Cheers.
