Fuel pump for my 454

I'm installing a 454 into my '67 C10 and I'm just curious if there are any advantages to installing an electric fuel pump in lieu of the old mechanical fuel pump? My bed is off and while I'm getting my new rear mounted fuel tank and running new hoses I just figured it would be an advantageous time to do it if I were to ever do it.

Re: Fuel pump for my 454

its all in what you like .

if you do go electri mount it on rubber pads or blocks of thick rubberso the vibration noise wont drive you crazy .

also watch out for the psi of the pump for the carb you will be running .

and a hidden switch to the pump for a kill would be a great security item

Re: Fuel pump for my 454

I used a Holley Red electric fuel pump to the 454 in my '67 K/10 Suburban. I skipped the minimum Oil Pressure safety switch that was recommended and in Race rules. I wasn't racing. Fuel tanks were way in the back, so the pump helped feed a thirsty BBC.
One day, a bad backfire caught my K&N air cleaner on fire and my fuel pump kept pumping 91 octane out. I was lucky some guys showed up with fire extinguishers.
But that truck's been down for a while.

Re: Fuel pump for my 454

Just one old guy's opinion..... I'd run a mechanical pump for reliability. I've repaired/replaced a lot more electric fuel pumps than mechanical ones.

Re: Fuel pump for my 454

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like I'll just keep using my mechanical pump.

Re: Fuel pump for my 454

these facet pumps work even after a nuke blows up if you ask me . my dad had one on the old 70 k2500 truck since i was 6-7 years old . that truck has been long gone now and i still have the pump and it still works .

i also took one from a old onan gen set out of a camper and it didnt work . gave it a tap with the screw driver handle and she come back to life and still running no problems to this day .

they have a screen filter inside you can clean out and a magnet in with it .

just dont get the tiny square cube one tho . they dont flow what a good size v8 needs . . . trust me i know

there the same pump for ever and come in a few metal finish colors over the years and sticker styles .

but there a SUPER unit . and dont forget electric pushes better than draws fuel . so the closer to the source the better .

Re: Fuel pump for my 454

I use my Holley fuel pump for a gas siphon, now.
Sucks up fuel from jerry can thru a small filter to the fuel tank via 3/8'' vinyl hose. Lot more precise than using the nozzle on a jerry can. Powered by a 12 volt cigar plug -- usually in the dash.

I agree. Plus you usually don't have to use a regulator either.
