1. You will have to reinforece the firewall to keep the clutch pedal from pushing thru.
2. You will have to modify your trans tunnel/hump and relocate the tranny crossmember.
3. Buy an adapter plate for the bellhousing if you don't have an LS(Gen III/IV motor)
4. Hook up a clutch pedal for the clutch.
5. Shorten your driveshaft
6. Change your rear gears, because if you don't 6th gear may be virtually unusable.
There's a few other small variables in there, but that's pretty much it.
Do you have to reinforce the firewall if you use a hydraulic throwout bearing?

Re: Installing a T-56

The reason for reinforcing the firewall is that the clutch master cylinder mounts to the firewall. It won't matter whether you have a hydraulic release bearing or an external slave cylinder. I personally don't know that your truck requires reinforcement, but I know that some cars do. I think it would be a good idea.

Cool, sounds easy enough anyway

Trust me, you will have to reinforece the firewall. Older cars firewall metal just isn't thick enough. Have I done a transplant on every old car?...NO. But, I haven't met anyone who didn't reinforce the firewall either. I personally have done one on my Chevelle though. I guarantee you will need the reinforcement. Besides, why wait to try it without reinforcement just to see what will happen.

I'll post pics of the transplant as long as the creater of this thread doesn't mind. It seems I'll be using a kit from this site:

http://www.weirhotrodproducts.com/id3.html

Contrary to what the site says they now sell a matching master cylinder to go with the kit.

Re: Installing a T-56

I ended up not buying the T-56 way back then. I did recently purchase a TR6060 and will be installing it when I get home from this glorious sandbox.

Re: Installing a T-56

Holy ressurrection! A T56 will work in our trucks. You move the shifter forward to the inspection cover, new trans xmember, cut the floor back to the ridge and convert your clutch pedal to use a MC. You will have to lengthen the clutch line though from the master to the slave since the stock one will be too short. If using a LT1 T56 it will bolt up just fine, an LS1 requires an adapter plate although I have heard that 5 of the 6 bolts line up even if you don't.

It also comes with the LT1 in f-bodies from 93-97 and also in a slightly different configuration with Vettes and Vipers. What x-member are you using with yours? Have you measured pinion angle yet and do you plan to move your shifter the the inspection cover?

Re: Installing a T-56

I don't remember off hand the brand of crossmember I used. When I get home I will check my paperwork and let you know. Yes, I string lined from the yoke on trans to my yoke on the piņon to check angle and make sure the driveline clears the center support on my frame, especially since I installed a 4" x 6" suspension drop. I plan on leaving the shifter in the rear of the trans and not using the relocate kit. I want it to shift like a car with a close ratio shift patern. I may need to notch my seat or make a custom shifter.
