Gas cap question

Just got the wife a 2018 Colorado v6. Instead of a gas cap (like any 1/2 way intelligent designer would include) this thing has basically a hole with a spring cover. So anybody can siphon gas or put something into the tank.

Not sure what GM was thinking (are we really that lazy?) but I would like to put a locking cap on this. It's not threaded in any way.

I looked around and found some for 2015 silverados, but nothing that actually says it will fit my truck.

So does anyone know if there is something that will work?

thanx

Re: Gas cap question

You're not going to find a cas cap. However, you might find a locking fuel filler door. Just a thought.

They make this for the fullsize 2018 chevy: gm# 84308352. It may be the same for the Colorado.

Re: Gas cap question

Thanx, Prong. That part is listed, as you say, for the full size trucks, I'm going to take a trip to the dealer, see if it will fit.

Re: Gas cap question

I tried and that part does not work.

Stupid Chevrolet does not even make one as an accessory. The parts guy can't believe I don't love the fact that someone can put anything they want in my capless fuel tank.

The search continues.

Do you always use locking gas caps?

Yes, but really, that's not even the thing that bothers me so much about this truck.

The opening is just that, an opening with a flap. They say that dust and liquids won't enter, but I can put my finger into it and push both flaps (there are 2) open and put whatever I want into the tank.

Down the road will it leak?

No way to put a cap on it, no thread, nothing. And the fuel dispenser - hose, whatever they call the end with the springs on it that the pumps have - actually gets caught on the inlet. I've had to fight it a couple of times.

Sorry if it sounds like a rage, it's just that you would think that at least the option of buying a cap would exist!

Re: Gas cap question

GM offers a "cover". Check out this thread: https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/top...-filler-cover/

Re: Gas cap question

I am in the process of buying a new 2018 1500 Silverado work truck. I need to lock my gas cap/door! I know it probably would be difficult to siphon the gas. But what about neighborhood punks putting in some sugar or whatever?

Re: Gas cap question

Thanx Leevon, I will check that out!

@ chevy's r us, I looked into the part Prong wrote about above "They make this for the fullsize 2018 chevy: gm# 84308352"

I think it will work for you. But us Colorado owners are out of luck.
