Cab B-Pillar Replacement

Does anyone make a replacement B pillar for a 67-72 C10? I found a complete rear cab replacement panel, but it's pretty pricey and I really only need the b pillar from the door handle down to about the lower body line. It looks like this cab may have been hit and someone used a slide hammer to pull it back out.

I’m with you on the hammer and dolly work, but whoever did this drilled holes to attach the slide hammer. So it looks like Swiss cheese.

There is access to the back, but it would take forever to weld up all the holes. It would be quicker and probably look better if I could put on a patch.

Re: Cab B-Pillar Replacement

Mine has damage in the same area, some one in the last 50 years munched the bed and cab together pretty good. I bought a good used cab cut from another truck that I’m going to use to replace the damage on mine. I hammered and dollied it out and it decent but the big problem is the metal is pretty thin from all the damage and repairs. Thin enough that there are many small pin holes in the metal.

Re: Cab B-Pillar Replacement

First choice: B pillar from donor truck...
Second choice: Patch panel. Install and then weld up remaining holes...
Third choice: Hammer and dolly to reshape, then weld up each hole...

Just for clarity, does anyone make a patch panel, or are you suggesting I would need to make one?

Re: Cab B-Pillar Replacement

I've never seen a repop panel for the area your dealing with , your option is to start with a hammer and dolly to get it as right as possible weld up the holes and prep it for a base coat of fiberglass short hair filler and work it out from there . or buy a used part to replace the damaged area , What is the condition of the rocker ? The cab supports ? do you have all the tools to do the repair yourself ? , Using a repair panel from another truck would be the best way to fix it . if the cab has all the other usual rust maybe it's time to consider a cab replacement ?

Thanks, Grumpy!

The cab is largely rust-free. The cab has had the rockers, most of the floors, and one cab corner replaced. The cab corner on this side is actually solid with only one hole that is small enough I think I can weld it up. The cab is actually the major reason I bought the truck, though I didn't realize at the time replace that B pillar would be a problem.

Sounds like I need to keep looking for a donor.

Thanks, again!

I'm confused here, Grumpy.. Is there something I'm missing?? Aren't we talking about the lower 6 - 10 inches of the RH lower cab corner?? Last time I looked, Classic Industries, LMC, and others, had the lower patch panels for ~ $20 each....

Unfortunately, it’s the section from the lower body line up to about the door handle height.

Re: Cab B-Pillar Replacement

That's the section I was looking at , How is the door lining up ? It looks like the gap doesn't match the door ? Maybe pushed back from the damaged section ? I'd try to align up that door and see how the gaps are all around before deciding on a fix .

Just remember it's only metal , It can be hammered , streched, smoothed , cut and welded , and beaten into submission until your happy with it !

The door actually lines up very well. It was partially open when I took the picture, so the alignment looks terrible in the photo. Whoever pulled it to the point it’s at now did a pretty good job. I just wish they hadn’t drilled so many holes in it. I don’t have much experience with metal work, so I think the easiest path forward for me is to find a donor.

The number of holes are concentrated in lower half of that area.. Install a patch panel and only a few holes remain above the patched area.. Per my second suggestion, most of the holes and stretched metal will be removed. My metal working skills are very limited.. Not saying others couldn't, but I probably wouldn't attempt a complete pillar replacement. But I wouldn't have a bit of trouble welding up all those holes and/or installing a patch panel.

Re: Cab B-Pillar Replacement

You might reach out to member MP&C about whether it would be better to replace it or hammer and dolly. He's a very skilled metal worker. As shown here

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=564201

Personally I think I would weld the holes and hammer and dolly it.

I'd hammer/dolly that and weld the holes. I only know of the complete back panel being made more recently. Until then there was nothing.

If you choose to weld the holes up.

A Copper backing Spoon (Or something Copper) Helps.
