Red face I'm new and have questions about 72 c-10

I am new to the message board. I live in a tiny town in southern California. My great grandfather bought a truck when it was new in 1972 and it's been in my family ever since. I love the darn thing. It's a custom deluxe 10. It has the original paint (blue two-tone) and is in pretty good condition. It has the 350 engine and is a longbed. I'll try and get some pictures of it. I use it everyday around town. The transmission could be rebuilt but it doesn't give me much trouble. I learned some general stuff like changing oil, changing tranny fluid, sparks, points, and things like that. Just enough to keep it running. But I want to know more. How much does a tran rebuild cost? How much does the truck weigh? Where can I find a bench seat that looks like the original (blue plaid w/ some white detailed vinyl)? How much is it worth? I believe it has mostly original parts in it. There isn't rust to speak of. Some brick red primer shows in the bed (only in the bed and only a bit). The body is in excellent condition. The only paint problem is on the hood. It has some discoloration (cream color) I think it's from years of chemicals or gases coming from the under the hood. The engine was probably worked on by my uncle but not replaced. I'd love to hear any general information about the truck and feel free to ramble on. Every time a see a picture of a truck that looks like mine on the forum my heart starts beating faster. I get a real kick out of 'em. Remember, I am only 17 and l'm still learning so don't assume I know what every part is. Thanks for any info you have.

If the original seat is white w/blue plaid inserts, sounds like you have the highlander package in your truck....very cool interior package. Welcome to the board from another newbie

The seat is in medium condition. About what you would expect. minor tears around the edges. I refuse to put a cheap seat cover on it though. Does your truck have the highlander package? It is pretty sweet how the paint matches the seat.

Your truck probably weighs somewhere in the 3400-3600 lb. range.

Why is it that people peel off the metal that separates the tones and paint it all one color? I love the way the originals look. Is it just a matter of preference? Oh, and where is a place I can get stock parts or nice repos. I feel like I ask for the impossible but I can't stand the idea of putting modern crap on a classic

stock parts? as in what fenders body parts?...they make all of them new they look the same also,.....and some trucks did not come with the 2 tone, and then some people want theirs without the side moldings.....like the way i am wanting to do mine it would look bad with them,my opinion,......but you build the truck the way you want it not the way some one else wants it......and the original, oldskool trucks look awsome,....but i am wanting to go a different way with mine,......if all of our year trucks were 2 tone there wouldnt be much to choose from........and as far as parts i would try here first on the parts board great place!....

There are some vendors that hang out here, and also used stuff on the parts boards. You'll be able to find everything you need to get the truck back into shape.

Welcome to the boards from MO.

Anyone with pics of a Highlander Interior,I'm curious myself about that one.

Welcome to the board. Like said, you will find some great vendors on this board. This is a board that doesn't mind any type of question, simple or hard, they all will get answered. Good to see another young person show an interest in these classics - they are pretty special to all of us!

Uh, any pics of your truck?

I'm hoping to get some pictures on the web by this weekend. I just noticed something on my truck that is very simple but I notice it. The fake wood strip that sits just below the lower molding (about an 1.5'' wide) is discolored and cracked. I want new strips if I could find some. Could I get that at a general parts store? Is it something I could put on myself?

Did mine like that because of 2 resons 1 to replace all the moldings got pricey. 2nd biggest reason is because this is something me and my dad have had for years, and now that we finally got it painted he would have no part in the two tone not even the cab top!

Welcome to the board. Did you ever get your pictures? The wood color in the moulding is sticker, and any of the board vendors will sell replacement fairly cheap.

This is the highlander interior that was in my 72 when I bought it. I don't think this exact pattern is being repoped but I think there are few of the other color combos available. Highlander had the plaid seat, black carpet and dash pad. There are a lot of old post about this. I have factory buckets now so I did not search anymore for the correct upholstery.

GSFMECH you have a beautiful truck on account that it looks alot like mine of course Your higlander seat is in better condition than mine. I want a new one that is just like the old one! I'm a bit of a purist and a person of habit. I was reading about some businesses that do reapolstry with classic materials. I don't know if they match it with new or just have old fabrics. Did you have any problems with discoloration on the hood? What causes that? Anyhow, maybe you would know how rare my truck is. I've seen one other one in the two-tone yellow and it was rusted out pretty bad but it was in driving condition. I see lots of old trucks because I live in a farming community but none like mine. I see cheyennes, 20s, and newer 10s. Once I get some pictures on the board maybe people will be able to tell me more about its worth and detailed info. Thanks for all the replies.
