How fast can I go!!

So I took the truck for a long ride 2 hours is long for me. Coming home I decided it was time to see what she could do. The best I could get her going was 81 MPH. I think this is low???

71 stock 350/350 no posi 3 speed (I think) Full size fleet

Re: How fast can I go!!

Well if it is stock and never rebuilt maybe 81mph if you give her a good rebuild and port and polish. And a intake/carb setup you will be there in less then 2hrs lol

Re: How fast can I go!!

granny four speed still has a 1:1 ratio in fourth like any other typical '71 trans. I would say check your secondaries, but I can cruise well over 80 in the primaries with 3.73's and 28" tires

I can bury mine until it points to the "H" in MPH at the bottom of the speedo...

Re: How fast can I go!!

I'm with Andy (LHM), I think you have a speedo or calibration problem.

Whatcha got for a rear gear? What size tires are you running? How many Rs are your turning at 81 MPH?

The 350/350 is supposed to be telling us 350ci engine and 350TH automatic transmission.....what is the 3 speed thing about? and the "I think" confuses even more?

If you listen to the motor...and it sounds like it is being stressed, that is when you let off. Most of my vehicles dont have tachs. Never blew one cause of no tach. Just listen to your motor.

My 70 had a 307 and a 3 on the tree. I know I had it past 100. But that was the 80's too. I remember it was blowing smoke too.

Re: How fast can I go!!

I think my speed o is ok
How about this. my foot was on the floor at 81 maybe I'm not getting full throttle cable length? She felt like she had more to give. How do I fix that? Washers behind the mounting brackets? That will bring it off the Firewall.

even an inline 6 with a 3 speed (manual or automatic) should be able to hit 100.

Re: How fast can I go!!

Many years ago , i had a good friend that owned an old chevette scooter (we always refered to it as his 3 cyl. 2 speed sh!t box) & it would go faster than that. This has to be a late april fools joke. john

Re: How fast can I go!!

Its no joke, I traveled about 2 miles with the foot to the floor and got nothing higher then 81. So I'm 99% sure that the pedal hits the floor before the throttle is fully open. I suppose I can simply check this by having someone pres the pedal to the floor and then check under the hood to see if there is anything left the linkage. How do I fix it?

I have only put one tank of gas in her since I finished the truck. I have had lots of problems to work out and this is the last (I hope) My timing was off before the test it was at 4 degrees, I had it fixed and its at 8 degrees now. That took away a hesitation. I knew it was off and I have not been able to do a burn out yet. I of course figured it was the timing now I am hoping the pedal issue?

you might bump the timing up even more. 8* was more of a recommendation for emissions. Try 12-16
