Rodeo Rig One My 88 GMC R3500 Build

Well I've Finally Decided To Start My Build Thread... Rodeo Rig One.. My 88 GMC R3500. The Plans are Motor Swap from the 454 3spd with Granny Low Manual to a 6bt 12v Cummins with a Manual 5spd Eaton Transmission. The 454 and transmission are out and sold. The 6bt is Purchased, the front clip of the truck is off and ready for the instillation of the Cummins. Since it's December 18th.. Most of my Work will be Interior or Customization that I can do in the Dungeon Of Destruction. Currently I'm working on the Preparation and Customization of the Steering Column of an 06 F-250 Superduty with the King Ranch Package. Its Got Temperature Control, Fan Speed Control Cruise Control and Radio Controls on it and I would like to have as many of these buttons working when I get it installed. Mostly Gonna Be a Photo Journal here, but if I can Answer any questions I'll gladly do it

Re: Rodeo Rig One My 88 GMC R3500 Build

Just a Couple Of Shots of the truck today.too cold to really do anything... Need to pull the flatbed and semi-test fit the headache rack before removing the mesh... no sense in ruining a perfectly good headache rack if it doesn't fit my truck

Re: Rodeo Rig One My 88 GMC R3500 Build

CPU - I have a 88 Chevy CC DRW Western Hauler that had a 454 and 4 speed manual just like yours. After getting 10 MPG empty and 5 to 5 1/2 when towing, I decided to yank the gas motor and installed a 1993 12 valve Cummins with the Getrag 5 speed manual. I changed my ring and pinion from 4.10 to 3.55 and now I can get 15 MPG towing and 23 MPG empty when I keep my foot out of it. It has been in there for about 14 years and I wish I would have done it sooner.

I am currently putting a 24 valve Cummins in a 89 CC SRW 4x4 and upgrading the TH400 to a 4L80 transmission.

Good Luck with your build.

I'm not planning on going that easy on the gears myself... planning on 3.73's cause I'll be pulling a 38ft Gooseneck. but thanks for the heads up! And Winter has kinda killed the build as my "Garage: is Open Air lol

Re: Rodeo Rig One My 88 GMC R3500 Build

Well its been a couple years and I've not gotten as far as I'da liked. Interest has never wained, just my confidence in my own skills has, I'm Starting to feel like its a project I can tackle again, but being stuck alone out in the boonies of northeastern Nebraska has hindered any hands on help. That's Where I'm at now.... Still moving but extremely slowly
