They say a picture is worth 1000 words, so here are a few >

I love the squared off 80s trucks but right away I had a huge connection with this one. I'm going to pick it apart some to let you know the flaws, but over all it's pretty cool. First off, it's rust free (basically) and who knows how many miles is on it?? the speedometer can roll over on these trucks so many times and it's not always documented well, but it's pretty tight as far as body panel fit. I know the body was pulled off and all new neoprene mounts were install and new windshield rubber too. The engine has got to be an 80s era because the dip stick is on the pass side. I just have to figure out if it's a 350 or a 305. I probably should have figured that out before I bought it. It's supposed to be a 350. I sounds like a 350. Gas gauge is busted. The other thing is the brakes are terrible... they are drum and non power. I'd like to get some factory rallys for it and find a factory bench seat (it doesn't have the original) Other than that, everything is peachy! Waddaya think?

Anyway, I'm going to edit and add some better pictures probably this week.

Nice truck, I like it! Looks like you'd need more than $9200 to get it to that shape. I've dropped $6k in mine in the last year (does not take labor into account), and it really could use a paint job...and upholstery...and...well, you get the idea.

Im not a fan of those wheels, or the rear roll pan, I prefer a bumper on the back. That said, I think you got a nice looking truck, and the things you are concerned about are not major problems. Congrats!

Sweet truck. I really like white half ton short sides. I think the dipstick's location has more to do with the doner vehicle. My Suburban has a 85 305 from a El Camino and the dipstick is on the driver's side. And it too was a 350 in the PO's sales pitch. My 51 GMC has great brakes, stock non power drums, so maybe you just need to tune them up.

That is a nice truck, and I agree Rally Wheels would look great on it. But if you're planning on upgrading the brakes keep in mind, depending on what you do (IE: Disc brakes) the stock wheels may not fit. I have Wilwood disc's on my Mustang, and they work really great, but I can't put the stock wheels back on. They won't clear.

I also agree with putting the rear bumper back on in favor of the roll pan. But I am biased. I think these trucks had great looking rear bumpers.

The gas gauge thing would bug me, mainly because I'm an idiot, and it would only be a matter of time until I ran out of gas.

That is a nice truck, it might need a few things, but they always do.

That's a sharp looking truck. Will look so much better with new tires and wheels. Can you tell me anything about that bed cover? I like the way it snaps down but doesn't require snaps in the actual besides.

Thanks, so what do you guys think in terms of rally wheels? Just something like the 5 slot Corvette rallies or truck rally wheels? Did these ever actually come with rally wheels in the first place? Either way, I've got to ditch the wheels that are on it.

Concerning the bed cover, there are four aluminum bars that have the snaps on them....and I guess they are screwed to the top of the bed.

No they did not offer ralley wheels in our years truck, but they sure look great. I think there are some pictures of trucks with both style rallies in this thread ....

Another thing- the cubic inch displacement number is usually cast into the block on top in back, on the driver's side and can be seen just looking down on it. That is if it really is that vintage of engine.

Well, I found it's a 1980-1985 block, 14010209 ... most places say truck, 4 bolt mains but a few say truck or car 4 or 2 bolt. The front pad suffix is TDA which is 1980 truck. So who knows?!

The other thing is this truck has 6 lug wheels, so I guess that's what they did in 68 and the eliminates rally wheels

You can buy 6 lug rally wheels also.

Nice truck!

The 80s 4wd trucks/blazers/etc had 6 lug rally wheels, usually 8" wide. They're cheap and plentiful here, maybe in your area too.

You got yourself a nice looking truck there , either truck rallies or Corvette rallies ( six lugs )there aftermarket for the vette wheels , eight inch wide . It's what I like seeing on these trucks , well also them steel eight inch wheels with or without the factory hubcaps ( dog dish type ) or the tons of other combos and color that work great with them wheels on these trucks with the right taste. Is your truck all manual drum brakes cause that might take some getting use too if not familiar with driving older vehicles, brakes just might be working fine but of course make sure. Like said, there's always something to do and you got definitely a nice start there already.
