69 C10 700r4 non-tilt Shift Indicator

PROBLEM: I have this goofy indicator setup from the PO (see pic) where my indicator housing and lens are from a pre 70 model and my actual indicator is from a 71-72.

Everywhere I've looked doesn't sell the lens for a non-tilt. Should I swap the indicator, or the housing/lens so that they match years, and then search for a 4spd lens?

Is a 71-72 indicator the same length as a pre 70 model? My 71-72 indicator measures exactly 2 1/2" from the front to the mounting hole.

Is a pre 70 lens and housing the same size as a 71-72? My pre 70 housing measures exactly 3" mounting hole to mounting hole. The indicator lens measures 2 11/16" wide and 3/4" tall on the edge.

Any help is appreciated. THANKS!

You aren't going to find a drop in 4 speed lens for either indicator housing so it doesn't matter which one you use, it's your preference.

Yes they are the same length and they use the same two holes to mount.

I think you are getting the years of the housings and lens confused. Stop worrying about years for a minute. There are two style housings..... The METAL housing you have is the early style, then there is a PLASTIC housing that is a later style, also used on non-tilt vans. Neither housing or lens is interchangeable with each other, but they will both bolt up onto the column in the exact location without any extra holes. I already gave you a DIY suggestion, and someone else explained to you that you can use an IDIDIT style lens if you wanted to drill holes and/or use double-sided tape to attach it to your housing. Outside of those two options, there aren't really any other options available for this swap. It isn't a common swap, as it's been asked spanning years back with no suggestions. Just so you know, you really don't need to make multiple threads covering the same subjects.

Ok. Thanks. I wasn't getting alot of responses so I just figured everyone didn't want to read through my other stuff going on in that other thread. And some of the other threads on the subject referenced knowing a guy who knows a guy, etc etc but they were from a decade ago.

Anyways, its good to know that the bolt holes are the same so that I can make some decisions on what to go with.

Last question:

Is the indicator (not the housing) for the pre-70 model the same dimensions as the 71-72 later one (will it bolt to the same hole like the housing does)?

Lefty, where did you get the blank lens for your DIY solution?

I sanded mine down, using various grits of sandpaper leading up to 25000 grit. You can buy a polish kit in the modeling section of a hobby lobby if you have one.

Thanks. Do you know if the indicator (not the housing) for the pre-70 model the same dimensions as the 71-72 later one? Meaning does it bolt to the same hole as the 71-72 that I currently have?

The mounting holes are the same but the lens and plastic housing are totally different in size and shape. The plastic housing is taller and I feel it has a goofy appearance when compared to the metal housing you have pictured.

Ok. I'm confused. I thought I had an early model housing and a late model indicator. Am I wrong? Currently, this indicator sticks out above my housing. Thats why I wanted to switch the indicator to the earlier one if it was not correct. So I'm trying to figure out if its a direct replacement. ?

Sorry, I meant indicator. The indicator housing for the later plastic housing is taller and the orange lens marker is larger. They still mount in the exact location of one another.
