Frankasaurus 66 C10

Hey guys I am new to this forum but have spent a lot of time gleaning information from all of you while I have been working on my truck. Thought it is time I just join up and share my project. It is a 66 C10 that was lowered by the PO. I pulled the 250 and 3 speed out of it and stuck in a 350 I built along with a TH350 trans.

Re: Frankasaurus 66 C10

Thanks! I'm up off McLoughlin near the Bomber. Trying to figure this whole thing out. Never done the forum thing before but this is a good one. Spent today putting my home-made alternator brackets together and my craigslist seat in. The PO installed a newer truck seat which wasn't installed anywhere near correct. Anybody have a clue what it's from? If I knew I might get more $$ from craigslist.

That Red seat looks perfect in there.

Yes, this forum is the best for our trucks.
Early when I joined, I posted that I was thinking about getting the Shop Manuals on CD.
A member told me to not bother, but rather read these forums. I bought it anyway and have looked at them maybe twice. This forum has so many helpful and courteous members.

Re: Frankasaurus 66 C10

Thought I would throw some pics up of us taking out the original 250 straight 6 and 3-speed.. I took it out at my buddies shop, put the old engine in the back of my S10 to bring it home for craigslist. It was late so it went to work with me the next day and one of my coworkers bought it from me for $700 (it was pretty fresh), he went home at lunch and got his hoist and came back, we put it in his truck bed in the parking lot. I didn't have to deal with anything!

Re: Frankasaurus 66 C10

Then we put my 350 in, with my TH350 trans. Both have about 200 miles on them, but were built about 3 years ago. They were in an 82 SWB that I ended up cancelling to go for the 66. I used a bare block for the mock-up to get the mounts in the right spot. I am the skinny guy with maroon shirt in the middle of the last pic.

Re: Frankasaurus 66 C10

Some more of the pics I have so far. No wood in the bed but the truck came with polished stainless rails and the complete hardware kit, all I need is the wood. Any recommendations? I am open to DIY or pre-cut kits. Might search the threads for that. These pics still have the straight 6 in it, the 350 isn't all hooked up yet.

Re: Frankasaurus 66 C10

A few more pics. The wheels are 20s. The driver's side front quarter, bed panel, and door are primer and are replacements. It got rubbed down the side by a wayward Accord. Not too bad, but the corner of the cab has a little damge that couldn't be just swapped out with a new panel. I will have to do that part. Never done body work before so that concerns me. Gotta learn something new!

Re: Frankasaurus 66 C10

And here it is at home in my own garage! I did the motor lifting at a friend's shop about 45 minutes away so it is very nice to have it close by to do what I want whenever I want.

Looking good, what size tires on your 20s? Mines about to get that treatment but not sure what size to go with, yours looks really good. Do you know what the offset on the wheels are also?

Re: Frankasaurus 66 C10

The tires are Falken Azenis 245/40ZR-20. I honestly don't know about the wheel offset, they came from the PO. I think the package looks great though, and am totally happy with the way he did that. Sometimes buying a vehicle with aftermarket wheels installed, you get someone else's idea of cool and it doesn't always match with your own but this time it worked out. I feel bad taking credit for your compliment, but thanks!

Re: Frankasaurus 66 C10

Thanks guys, appreciate all the comments. I got rid of my old seat on craigslist yesterday. The guy who came and got it said the photo looked like it was a back seat out of a 90's Suburban, and he was sure of it once he saw it in person. I have a 2 car garage with my truck, quad, scooter, firewood, freezer, compressor, tool box, big work bench, shelves, and everything else the old lady won't let me bring in the house, so I was REALLY glad to get rid of those seats! I haven't bolted down my new seat yet, waiting on my carpet first. The PO put it a carpet that is in like-new condition but when I pulled it back to think about installing my floor shifter, I discovered some hokey sh*t... He bought carpet for a high hump floor and the truck has a low hump. Instead of sending it back and doing it right, he laid down several thicknesses of cardboard, about 20 shop rags, some plastic which was probably wrapped around some shipped parts, even an LMC Truck catalog! I needed some new rags, but WTH? My floor shifter would probably not like going through that stuff so I pulled it out and ordered the correct carpet. If anyone with a high hump floor wants it, let me know. It is sort of a darker than tan color.

Re: Frankasaurus 66 C10

I got it from custom interiors. I can't say much yet about how I like it as I haven't installed it yet, but the craftsmanship is good. Not great, that would have cost more. But it is correct, without flaws, and if it fits nicely I will be very happy. I think if I were doing a total build with deep pockets I would have an upholstery shop take my truck and give it back to me with a one-off carpet job, but I paid $119, which is a bargain for what I got. And getting the stuff from Home Depot is kind of not my cup of tea. No offense to those who did it, and kudos if it looks good. I don't have the patience. Mine came with the edges finished, a heel pad, and vacuum formed to fit the floor. I will try to install it tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
