Al, in your honest opinion, what does this truck need? I ask because the wife wants a Burb but neither of us wants an ongoing project. We have one of those. She wants a truck to drive everyday.

You could leave this alone for years and drive just fine as-is or spend every weekend with upgrades, etc.

It depends what your definition of a project is and how complete you want something. It also depends on what your wife wants to drive. This one isn't in constant need of mechanical help, lots of new parts, its never failed to start for me, daily driver, but its not fully restored, either.

Honestly, my wife would most likely not want this as her dailey driver. Its not fuel injected and can be cold blooded on cold mornings (always starts, though) and doesn't have the drivability of a newer minivan or other car. She feels very safe in it, 4x4 works great in snow, but its a 30 year old design.

Please carefully read the first post for body condition. I get compliments and staring all the time BUT there are small dings here and there that were painted over, there are rust spots (by spots I mean 2 or 3 2" areas near the rear wheels that aren't holes yet, but are showing through), and there is an area where the fourth door would be that has a poor body puddy job. The driver's side of the burban is nice and straight. The passenger side has the wrinkles caused by the poor body job where the door would be.

I've been driving it everyday for a long time, my wife drives it other days hauling kids around (has seat belts for 8).

Here's what I would do to it (or will do if I keep it)

Mechanical:
Front shocks
New tires
Recharge AC (it works fine, just isn't as cold as I'd like, got a can of R12 that goes with it)
Kickdown cable to downshift tranny.
Other???

Body:
Realign the driver's door.
Other cosmetics as funds allow.

Interior:
Needs a stereo. The factory AM radio lights up, but no sound.

Basically, this is an excellent candidate for a resto that will look killer and have all the options one could want from the factory. Its good enough now to drive daily until you want to do the restoration.

I will have her read this again. That you for the frank response. We want near perfect if possible and know it will cost. Or a candidate way down the road. If it would get through a few years til I get the first project done, then it is a maybe.

I've got no doubt that this will make it comfortably through several years, there's nothing major wrong and it looks great right now. When it gets restored (in original olive green in my opinion) its going to look awesome and have all the options.

Timing was never my strong point. I was going to sell it a while ago, but didn't want to part with it. Then my wife buys a newer car...changes everything. If you know anyone else in your neck of the woods who might be interested, please let me know.

For the right price I'd gladly drive it to Washington.

Thanks for considering it. There's an AWESOME finished one on www.collectorcartrader.com with a 700r4, keyless entry, all the options, etc. for $17,500. Sounds like a lot, but it would be tough to duplicate for less.
