Locking hub ?

If I put my truck in 4hi do i still have to get out an lock the hubs? It says that they lock automaticly. And when i put it back into 2wd do they unlock?

I take it you have auto hubs or did you have auto hubs and someone has changed them to lock-outs?
If you have hubs that say lock free on them, you will need to get out and lock them in. If they do not have a turning knob in the hub, they are considered a full time 4x4. Simply shift inside the truck. This locks the transfer case. Shifting back unlocks it.

One other thing to get auto hubs to unlock you have to switch the tc into 2 HI and then back-up about 15' to get them to unlock.

Yes, there are manual and auto hubs, Manual hubs you have to get out and lock yourself, auto do it automatically.

I have always locked the hubs first and then shifted the TC. Then do reverse order to unlock.
I have driven with the hubs locked in and the TC in 2 HI before. This was not for highway driving but for areas that I felt that I might get stuck in and did not want to get out in the mud to turn the lockouts.
Go to Advance Adapters homepage and they have pics of the cases. Looking from the rear, mine has a small circular 3 bolt plate, it is a 205. If you are not the original owner, it could have anything but I think it will be a 203. Chain drive.

I have a set of manuals the guy gave me with the axles I bought from him, I think I may put my auto hubs on the new axles though just so I don't have to get out this winter to lock them in, i'm kinda lazy ya know, probably put the manuals in after winter is over and i'll want the little extra gas mileage.

auto hubs will have no effect on gas mileage. Unless you don't allow them to un-lock(i.e. back-up with TC in 2 HI). Auto hubs have nothing to do with full-time 4WD, Trucks that had full-time 4WD (non convereted NP203), had drive flanges on the front axle.
