Posi question

Is there a way i could convert my rearend into a posi like a cheap and easy way?
I heard about welding something but I don't know how well that would work out.
Or is there any kind of kit i can buy?

Re: Posi question

You could weld your spider gears together, but if the weld broke, you just trashed your rear end, a posi locker would be the best way to go.

Re: Posi question

POWERTRAX is probably the cheapest locker. Welding is is an offroad deal, not safe on wet roads, fun, but not safe.

Re: Posi question

Requries you removing your carrier(keep all shims in order for reassembly), take out the spider & side gears, install the locker, reinstall carrier.

Re: Posi question

I'm using the Powertrax and I love it. You don't have to remove the carrier, just take out the spiders. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...115+4294901325

Re: Posi question

Have you guys running the powertrax had any "clicking" noises like a locker? I have also heard that they can grenade under lots of HP. I picked up an Eaton posi off Craigslist for $125 (which was a smoking deal). All you have to do is remove the carrier (check and record the backlash-keep track of what side the caps came off). Swap your ring gear and re-install. Shim your backlash to the same and get the carrier caps back where they came from. It's the best way if you have any real power now or plan to build some down the road.

Re: Posi question

yes a powertrax will wear out quick if you have decent power. i used one in my toyota and wore it out the first day we went wheelin. eatons are great never had any problems with them and they are fully rebuildable.
