My 1956 3100 Build

Attached is my build of a 56 truck that I brought back from Arizona in 1976 and now doing a frame off restomod restoration. Chassis is done and now the dirty work starts of prepping body for paint. Engine is a 350, trans Gearstar 700R4 level2, TCI front and rear suspension with 87 Firebird Rear end with disc brakes and Thunderbird Rack and Pinion steering.Name:  IMG_1706.jpg

The Engine has an RV Cam, Edelbrock 600cfm carb, Electronic ignition, aluminum heads and Sanderson headers. The pontiac rearend has a 2.73 ratio.I plan on a nice cruiser to take antwhere with good mileage and reliability and look great from 25 feet and definitely not a trailer queen.

Nice Project, very similar components to mine. should be fun
is that a 2.73:1 ratio a typo? I know there is that ratio, I had it in my Blazer, but with the 4spd trans, you may be interested in swpping to a 3:73, otherwise you will be doing 80 mph at 800 rpm. or you could run golfcart wheels and tires, may look good

Cameo beat me to it. 2.73 gears will have you unhappy. The timing will not go to full advance, the vacuum advance will suffer. The carb vacuum will suffer. The torque converter will not lock up, and your gas millage will really suffer.
Those engines need about 2200 rpm to be happy.

here is a good rpm calculator, maybe an idea to check it out. if you know the trans you have you can figure out the final drive ratio and the ratios between gears. plug in a few specs and the calculator will finish the last one for you.

2.73 seems like a highway gear more suited for a 3 speed trans. it's your truck so you build it like you want, just info for you. you can always swap the axle ratio later if it turns out that you don't like it

ok, found your build thread.4.8 LS with auto OD trans, 3.73 gears in a camaro axle, MII front end, leaf spring rear, C notched frame, tubbed box, lotsa room likely. I guess pick a tire width that you like , a tire height you like, and use the comparo chart to find a common tire size that won't be a special order if you happen to have a flat somewhere away from home.
